Pedal extenders for 2350 Sprinter
« on: March 07, 2021, 06:34:13 pm »
Has anyone used pedal extenders on their Phoenix Cruiser Sprinter motorhomes?  We have a 2350 2010.  My husband was the primary driver but now with some serious health issues, I will be doing more driving.  I am 5'1" and have trouble reaching the pedals with my shorter legs.  Thanks for any input.

When I was on Okinawa with the Marine Corps in 1972, some of the taxis were old, large American cars.  Keep in mind that typically, Japanese are a bit shorter.   So the drivers would cut off a piece of a 2x4 and wire them to the gas and brake pedals.  Simple and inexpensive fix!!

Never used them, I have installed them for people.

DONT go the cheapest.  Cry once, and get decent quality. Plan on spending $100 or more for the set.

Unfortunately, The ones I have seen/installed all have been ""permanent"" , or not easy to remove/install. Has been an issue when using two drivers. I did find one that is!   https://goldenmobility.ca/product/pedal-extensions-by-veigel/     Its a little pricey at $500, but looks to be an excellent design, and allow quick driver changes.

Hi Marge,

Pedal extenders setup right for the short-legged person, no longer works for the long-legged person.

Another idea that might create a similar scenario, but might be work considering, is an offset mounting plate for the driver seat.  Just maybe a compromise can be made to mount the seat closer to the steering wheel.  But that might become a safety hazard, sitting too close to the steering wheel air bag.

A third option is slip-on driving shoes.  Your husband might appreciate them more than you.  ;)
In all seriousness, they might be your most practical solution.

""In all seriousness, they might be your most practical solution.""   :beg

I am gonna attribute that to too much 'Irish in The Coffee' somewhere...  :)(:  Maybe here.. roflol

But really...  Figure a 1.5 hr install, the detachable extenders are a very reasonable solution. Lets say $750 total by the time you drive away from the mechanic.

For a well engineered, safe, easily reversible(!)  solution that's not a bad deal. One slip of those LOVELY shoes  tymote  and you could easily be out much more in time and money.

@ RonD, while I was posting, Mrs V came up and we discussed camper, and how she has NEVER operated it. We now agree that has to change. She is petite (5 foot / ~1.5M) and I wonder if the extenders may be needed once she has the seat high enough!
IIRC, your lovely Lady is petite also, has she driven the camper?

My wife Irene is 5'-2" tall, shorter-leg'd, longer torso'd....not a good scenario.  We have the 6-way power driver seat option of which she adjusts adequately to drive our PC safely without the need for driving pumps.   :lol

I don't know if she could drive our PC without all the seat adjustments.

Mrs V and I went and checked, likewise with the power seat up and forward pedals are not an issue.  (cheer)  Nice to see the Ford chassis is so flexible.

She can probably beep the horn with her bosom if she sneezes, but pedals are operable.  roflol    roflol

Well Margie, hope that answers your question about pedal extenders.  :)(:
