Backup Camera Issues
« on: December 21, 2020, 09:57:54 am »
Before I contact Phoenix, I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced similar issues with their backup camera.  On my longer trips, I like to get an early start, before sunrise.  Every time I leave early in the dark, my backup camera is blank.  Sometimes it starts working after a few minutes, other times after an hour.  I don't think I have had issues with it during the day.  I have tried testing during the day turning on the headlights, but it works just fine.  I need to do more testing with it at night and see if I can get more information.  Anyone had any issues like this?

Thanks, I had searched the previous posts and did not find a solution.  I just wanted to see if anyone had any issues like this that had not posted about it.  I'll probably just call PC.

Did it start working as soon as sunrise came up?   Parked in the dark do you get a picture?  What about parked in daylight?

My initial thought is that the IR lighting (the circle ofights around the lens) isn't working.

RV backup cameras don't have visible light around the lens for several reasons.... Most notable being so it doesn't shine a bright light into the eyes of the vehicle behind you while on the road.  Also so you don't light up your neighbor while using it to back into a spot in a campground.

Our 2007 Zone Defense back-up camera system used to have sound which was great getting verbal instruction from my wife's guidance.  The sound stopped working after some years.  I could never get a straight answer as to the location of the microphone.  I looked high and low but could never find it.  I always assumed it is a pin hole that got blocked by dirt or spider stuff.  We have full body paint and so I also wondered if painting the backup camera housing to match, made it more susceptible to a blockage.

I didn't know about th IR light, but that isnt the issue because I can't see the area lit by floodlights.  It starts working before sunrise.  sometimes it is only out a few minutes, other times up to an hr.  Very odd issue.

Time to get it to the dealer.  Sounds like a loose wire or connection.

Not sure I had the same problem that you are experiencing.  At night my picture was all washed out, could not make anything out.  Took back to factory and new camera was installed, still had the problem. Then installed new monitor, still had the problem.  After many google searches one person said make sure your camera is installed below the clearance lights.  Sure enough mine was installed above the clearance lights, relocated the camera to below the clearance lights and it works perfect now.
