how to get to the hidden water lines - 3100
« on: November 12, 2020, 09:44:58 am »
I have developed a water leak when I am connected to a water line.  I checked the pumbing connections under the passenger side bed and don't find it there.  It seems to be coming from where the water lines disappear from there into the wall of the closet area.  I did leave a message at the factory but thought I would give the forum a try also.  This is a 2017 3100.  Does anyon have experience with getting to those water lines once they disappear into the walls?  I see the floor of the closet has screws but the trim appears that it would still block that being removed.  How does one work on the water line without doing demo to the bathroom walls?  Or what is the least destructive way to get a look into the walls.  Thanks.

Thanks Volkemon for the offer.  I actually am about to set foot back in the state but no where near your area.  Quick stopover for medical stuff and then right back to PA to help my Mom. Doesn't everyone leave FL for the winter? :lol  I really do appreciate your offer to help!

In my 2551 (bath and beds are the same layout) there is a panel in the upper back of the farthest rear curbside outside storage, (basically under the closet,) has a few screws and staples holding it up. Can't recall, but you may have to remove the hinged shelf in there to get it out.
Hopefully Helpful,

Where is the leak showing?   Under the coach on the ground?  In the coach on the floor?   Outside at or near he passenger side fill area?

How about using a snake like camera similar to this.

https://www.amazon.com/Inspection-Fantronics-Waterproof-Borescope-Adjustable/dp/B071HYRPND/ref=asc_df_B071HYRPND/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=241980329968&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18136806211310956432&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9016801&hvtargid=pla-524942732349&psc=1

I have not used one but for $21 seems worth a try assuming your phone/computer is comparable.

Not so sure it will go through the PEX connectors and/or the elbows in  the system, or where you'd start to get inside the plumbing other than a faucet or toilet line.

However, to view areas where the pipe runs it should work fine.

The leak is showing up inside. Following the slight lean I had that night, it was coming from under the closet area back into the corner of the underbed area and into the aisle.   I didn't hear back from the factory yet. Presently on the road but when I get back up where I stay by Mom, the repair guy there likes the bigger hammer theory.  For instance when he was going to "fix" a problem with the slide out, we wanted to take apart one end of it, cut it down a bit and put it back together. (That repair is waiting for spring for the factory to fix and avoid the cutting down routine).  So I am trying to figure out what parts come apart and how so I can get a look at it myself.  Plumbing was easier in a house where I could just go to the basement and see the pipes!

Did you pull out the little fiberboard panel in the back of the outside storage like I mentioned above? It takes about 5 minutes. That is where the pipes and wiring are, tho your leak could be from behind the toilet, depending on the lean of the coach.

Catsaplenty,

The Floorplan in the rear looks exactly like my 2551.  I have marked in red where you say it leaked.   Presuming the plumbing, etc. is just like my 2551,that is where the water pump is located.   To get to it, you remove the mattress and you will see the plywood underneath is held down bt about 20 or so screws.  Remove all those screws and the plywood will lift out.  Underneath, where I marked the Floorplan, you will see the water pump and the lines leading into it.  Connect to city water and look to see if the leak becomes obvious.  It MAY only leak when the incoming water pressure is too high (80 psi or higher) but that can.be corrected by adding a water pressure regulator to the city water hose at the park faucet.  They are cheap... under $25.

My guess is that the pump itself has cracked or the output line has worked itself loose.  No need for a bigger hammer... Just replace the piece that's actually leaking.

If it's not the pump itself, a camera probe can go underneath the wardrobe from where the pump is.

When your done, put the plywood back, put the screws in the same screw holes and tighten.   Put mattress back and you are done.

There is an access door under the passenger side mattress where the pillow sits, closest to bathroom. Look through there with a flashlight to see if you see water or leak going to the rear bathroom.  No need to remove screws unless further investigation is needed.

I believe the city water connection is on the drivers side so that is far away from where you see the water.  Check the access door and also check Lucky 2’s suggestion.

The city water hookup goes to the cold water plumbing AFTER the water pump.and pressurizes all water lines.

On my 2551, from the access hole, you can't really see the water pump, especially the output side.   Can't see much through the grill at the back either because of the heater duct to the bathroom.

Using an electric screwdriver, maybe 2 minutes to take screws out and maybe 3 to put back in.

Didn't know that.  That explains a lot.  Thanks for that tip.  On my 2010 2551 the pump is directly below the access hole.  On occasion I feel around it checking for any leaks.   But, I agree removing the board is the easiest access and doesn't take long.  It also allows access to where the plumbing goes back into the closet.

Just be careful removing the board because the power center is under the bed as well.  Don’t drop any of those screws!!!

I did have the bed area fully opened because of the water I first saw in the aisle. I knew a lot of connections were in that area.  There is no leak within that area - pump or any water lines. water tank, etc..  it is coming under the wall that seperates the bed from the closet. The slight lean towards the front where I was parked that night had water coming out of that wall into the corner of the under bed area.   I have been in motion and dodging rain so I have not tried yet to figure out removal of the panel in the outside storage. When conditions permit, I will try that next.  My phone isn't listed for the camera but if I can find one that does, that could be a cool thing to have. As soon as I can I will empty that storage area and try that approach. Getting by with water jugs for now. Thanks.
