Electrical Glitch
« on: November 07, 2020, 01:08:20 pm »
We haven’t been out much lately. Two elderly parents keep us close to home. But on a quick overnight trip, two glitches surfaced. First, one of the overhead lights quit. The problem isn’t the light, but the feed. It’s getting no power, with or without shore power.  Second, one of the outlets quit working when we’re not on shore power. On shore power, it works fine. I checked all the fuses and no issues there.  It’s a 2015 2910D. Any thoughts?

Not sure on the lights but on the outlets, 4 outlets work with the inverter, the outside outlet, the one at the sink, the one in the bathroom and the one for the TV (on 2552).  You say it works on shore power, I imagine the generator as well? Not sure if it helps.

The outlet works with the generator on. Just doesn't work with the inverter. It did work with the inverter before so that's why I'm stumped.

My thoughts are that the outlet is working as designed. If it works with the generator and shore power but not the inverter than the pass through inverter's transfer relay in not operating properly If that were true than you wouldn't have any outlets working with the inverter.  Do any of your other outlets work with the inverter?

Those outlets are all GFI protected so if the master outlet trips (in the bathroom I believe..but maybe in the power panel).  That could be the issue.

As for the overhead light... One of the overhead fixtures is controlled by the right hand switch (as you look at it) by the entry way.   That switch must be on for the middle ceiling fixture to work.  The switch is so if you come inside at night you can "turn on the lights"... The switch on the fixture must also be on.

You nailed it Don. After all this time I didn't know that the center overhead light is controlled by that switch. Well now I at least have an extra fixture if one of the lights burns out.
