Insurance time again

Insurance time again.  This time, National General demanded a 38.7% increase -- on top of last year's 20% increase.  Meanwhile, the value of my motorhome, like any other motorhome, continues to drop like a rock.  I paid $31K for my PC, back when my insurance was only $380.  Now they want over $600 for a $13K vehicle that's only used 4 weeks a year!

Progressive was a little better -- $433.  Probably just a bait and switch.  I guess I'll know in a year.  But even $433 is absurd, when the insurance on my three other vehicles is only $980/year!  They're all newer than the PC, and two of them are actually driven regularly!

Agree, it's a racket.  I am with State Farm.  I carry full coverage and since 2015 it's stayed about $1k a year.  Course, I bought my PC new at the beginning of 2015.     I have actually come out ahead, the hail damage was near $7k. 

But yea, we can thank the tort attorney for at least 1/2 of our premium costs... If not more.

We own 4 vehicles.  We have AARP/Hartford for all our vehicles, one plan regardless of vehicle type.  I like that they realize we can't drive every vehicle at the same time, and they realize some of our vehicles are seasonal-use.  It keeps the rates lower and operations more simplified.  No need to suspend portions of the policy off season to save money.

We have Progressive,  we paid $804 for our brand new 2019 2552 last year, this year it went up to $816 then I changed a few things on my coverage. Increased my personal property amount and changed total loss from actual cash value to replacement cost/ purchased price and it only increased it to $868. I did this 2 weeks before a tree fell on my rig and now it is getting fixed with all new parts from PC and I only have to pay my $500 deductible. So far very happy with Progressive let's see what happens next year after this claim.

Just for the perspective...  here in FL the PIP (NO damage coverage to MY rig) is less than $100 a year  on our 2006 model 2350.   

Its minimal, and reflecting on it now, MAYBE I should cover my a** a little better.     When I started the policy, we weren't even sure we would be keeping it, and I just blindly renew it. Thats where the Forum helps in things besides hardware repair...    Thanks. 


But really, if you can get FULL COVERAGE on a newer coach for $1000 a year or under, thats pretty damn good IMO!   Spend $100K on a rig and have it FULLY covered for 1% of purchase price. $3 a day.

Whatever insurance you choose make sure you check the written policy. My aunt and uncle are snowbirds SD-FL. They spend 4 months in Florida every year. When they got a new rig they bought insurance and told the agent how they used it. They asked several times but never got the written policy and didn't follow up. They decided to store the fifth wheel in Florida one year instead of pulling it home. Something tore holes in the roof and the rain and mold destroyed the rig. That's when they found our their RV policy didn't cover Florida (and a few other popular snowbird states). They received NO insurance payment.
