extending roof rack

Hi All:

Thinking about installing my kayaks on the top of the mh. I am thinking of taking off my current side rails on the roof rack and having Phoenix make longer side rails that would extend 13 feet.  I have cross bars that I could then attach to the rails to hold the kayak. I know this would require installing more foot pads on the roof.  Has anyone drilled into the roof to install or fix something?  Would there be anything in the roof that I could damage by drilling holes for the screws?

Your questions could be best answered by Phoenix USA.

BTW:  While the roof rack is apart, you might want to consider slipping on floatation noodles to act as pads and rollers for the Kayaks.  Find ones with the right ID and color to match your rig.  They are very durable and likely have UV protecting properties.

David, I think you sent me an e-mail concerning kayak rack.  I'm afraid you have the wrong person since we do not have a kayak rack on our pc.  We do kayak, and considered adding some sort of rack but couldn't find anything other than a rack that hooked into the trailer hitch.  Kayaks were strapped in vertically.  I didn't want to drill holes in the roof, so we've decided to carry them on a toad.

A nice option that i have seen but have yet to purcahse is the RVRaxx (www.rvraxx.com), made here in Manchester, NH,.....you can carry two of the "shortie" kayaks in a vertical set up as well as there is the capability to still tow a toad with the hitch adapter that you can buy as well (you loose approx. 25% of the orginal hitch towing capacity).   The  entire  set up is a little pricey but the quality is superb and it is a neat concept with the many acc. you can get to go on the base rack frame system.  Check it out.    Thanks

Update:

I sent Amanda an e-mail on friday wondering if I could get my roof rails extended.  Received an e-mail from Kermit today to send him drawings of what I want.  Completed the drawings on "word" today and sent via e-mail.  Hoping he can have them made.  I will keep you all up to date.

I used the draw feature on "word"  I printed them off and scanned them into the e-mail and sent to Kermit. I was not sure if he had the same program on word so I did the scanning.  Do you want a copy or are you just being silly?   (WH)

I knew you weren't being sarcastic.  I think the whole thing is pretty neat. I'm interested to see the finished  install. Where else can you just send a drawing to the owner of an RV Manufacturing company and get something custom like this? Kudos to Kermit and crew.  2o2
