Hitch Mount Bike Rack for PC?

We're geting down to the nitty gritty now!  Looking for a 3 or 4 bike, class 3, 2" hitch rack that either extends far enough away from the rear end or tilts/swings away to enable either partial or full (preferred) opening of the rear compartment.  Nearly all of the tilt/swing models I've looked at specifically state they are not designed for RVs/trailers due to the greater distance on these from the rear axle to the back of the unit (increased bounce?).  Currently using a buddy's platform 2 bike mount & squeezing into the rear compartment for the power plug/hose/gloves whenever we stop.
 ;)

Putting the weight behind the axle changes the moment arm on the front wheels or hitch in the case of the trailer, i.e.. reduces the weight on either.
The further behind the axle the more the effect for the same weight.  SeeSaw, teeter-totter effect.

I've been using the Allen bike rack - triple.  Sturdy, tilts down for easy access and best of all when used on my ford explorer stopped a car that rear ended me.  Only damage was to slightly bend the frame of the rack.  His car was totalled.

Thanks for the response Penny.  Allen's site notes that nearly all of their racks are not appropriate for trailers & that sometimes means RVs as well.  I've sent them a contact query via their customer support link & will let you know their response.

Hi:

Try www.etrailer.com.  They sell swagman brand which are for rv's.

Thanks DJM!  The etrailer site is a good one & their "ask a question" link gets someone working the issue way more than I expected.  Unfortunately, even their resources could not identify a rack appropriate for RVs that would tilt or swing away from the rear compartment.  I might have to settle for one that is at least a good enough distance away from the hitch mount to enable partial opening of the rear compartment door.

 5:)

Just to follow up & close this post off - Thanks again DJM for the etrailer link.  I had been on that one before & kept going back 2 it after being frustrated on other sites that purported 2 B RV compatible (when checking w/manufacturer site - often found that wasn't the case - wd/hv made 4 an interesting warranty claim if it ever came 2 that!) so I guess it was time 2 order.  Again, their customer service personnel were fantastic - even recommended another company's bike cover instead of theirs after I expressed a concern over structural integrity.  Penny - the folks @ Allen never did get back in touch w/me.  Thanks 2 you all for giving me lots of good ideas.  It all boiled down 2 a platform style carrier Vs a hanging rack style.  I ended up ordering the Swagman XP 3 carrier & a cover from Northern Tool.

Glad I was able to help. We use an older swagman and carry 4 bikes.
