Slide Out Weight and Lean
« on: August 11, 2020, 09:50:41 am »
2011 2551

I'm installing my new wood flooring and I'm envisioning a nightmare; the rollers and the weight on them.

My question is, is there a way to balance the slideout?

The rollers indented the previous flooring over time and I'm finding it hard to believe its not going to do so even more with this flooring.

I extended the slide out so I could remove the existing carpet. When I removed the rollers the slide out leaned IN at the top. Yes, with the slideout outside the rig the top leaned in and the weight is significant. It's no wonder they imprinted the original flooring.

The refrigerator is the only thing of weight inside the slide out and I find it hard to believe that is the sole cause. Even more so when the refer is outside the rig when the slide out is out.

Of more concern is there is a 'push' on a roller and the surface it's on before the roller will start to turn. With floating flooring that could be a big problem is it just starts scrunching up the flooring.

I'll find out the outcome when I'm done with the floor but if any of you have any experience or thoughts on this let me know please.

I once read the weight added to a 2350 and 2551 (one large enough to include the fridge) weighs an extra 500 pounds compared to not having a slide out.  If those numbers are accurate, the weight of the fridge and couch is "added" to that figure.  The slide out prior to 2010 did not include the fridge.  That added 400 pounds.

I do wonder how accurate those numbers are for it would take a fork lift to set the slide out inside a PC.  I would like to see a video on how Phoenix sets the slide out.

There are adjustment bolts on the outside, underside of the slide that may need adjusted.  Also, the slide is more of a "swing" with the weight taken by the frame.

Awesome!!!!!!!!! I should be able to do something with that. Probably means there are some instructions somewhere. I'll post back what I find. If that's how these things work the rollers should really be there to prevent excess swing and not for carrying the largest part of the weight!

Thank you donc13!

Bad news right off the bat. It's not a LiftCo and not a swing. Looks like half a swing. It's a "GlideOut" and patented by Phoenix Cruiser so I'll have to look to them for support.

Interesting, my 2015 "Glide Out" is made by Liftco for Phoenix.  The stickers have both Liftco and Phoenix on them.

Definitely interesting. Mine doesn’t have LiftCo on it anywhere. Could have come off I guess.

I see two very large 1”+ bolt heads on the underside in each outside corner. Is that what you are referring to? Now that I look at that it looks like backing off on them might tilt the weight more to the outside. Will give that a shot tomorrow.

Yes

I'll bet Phoenix "sold" or worked on the patent with LiftCo

More likely bought the patent and buried it. 😁

Thrutraffic, what did you finally conclude on your Glideout issue?

Wow, I am really glad this topic was brought up.  I too would like to install wood flooring of some type but was worried that the extra height would mess up the slide.  I too have indents from the rollers.  Actually, the flooring is actually ripped and has been repaired due to the extra weight on the rollers.  The flooring slightly bunches up when the slide is in.  I will post pics later. I may have over relooked it, but is there no manual on how to adjust the slide?

Are the indents in the carpet?  I installed vinyl in my 08 and haven't had any problem (yet).  I did not install on slide as my sofa/bed takes up the entire slide.

I assume that question was for both “Thrutraffic” and myself.  For me, I have vinyl.

Call Lifrco, they are very helpful. They will also send you all the manuals that go with that hardware, there are several of them.
