water in coach door
« on: July 09, 2020, 11:08:19 am »
Hello to everybody.

We have  a 2015 2010T. We have water collecting in the coach door after a rain. We have sealed what looks like an obvious potential leak point I.e a seam on top of the door and the gutter above the door. Neither has worked. Next thought would be to seal the window. Any other ideas or has anyone experienced this issue

The water is collecting IN the door, if i am understanding you?   As opposed to 'in the floor area between the door and screen'... or 'in the step area by the door' ?

We have had both the latter, but I (dont think...  :beg ) We have had water IN the door itself.  Where does it drain out?

And WELCOME to the forum!  Somebody MUCH more qualified than me will be by soon to help.  roflol

Hello
I have the same issue on my 2017 2552. So far I to went and sealed the top of the door and rain gutter with no luck either. It was raining cats and dogs so i went into the RV and removed the lower drawer under the stove and the access panels for the hot water heater under the sink.  I found water leaking in from the hot water heater.  The upper part of the hot water heater under the cover was not sealed correctly and was leaking. Then the grommet where the gas line passed through to the hot water heater was also leaking. The water would run into the gap between the wall and floor and makes its way to the step well. I am not sure if I have it all figured out yet just waiting for another heavy rain to see if it does it again. Hope this helps.

You guys have had interesting water intrusion issues.  I will have to inspect my water heater-to-house gasket.

Just a quick tip here to try until you remedy the problem.  Open your main awning just enough so the rain does not hit the door or water heater, yet not get whipped in the wind.

When we want the passenger side windows open on a rainy day, I open our main awning (the old style box awning) about 18", just enough to allow us to open the main entry door without the need for the awning's side supports.  Doing so works nicely as long as the rain is not wind-driven.

Hello Ron
For me what I have noticed is that there isn't any leakage until I get a driving rain. The only way the awning might even help would be to have it fully extended and that would result in having it either ripped off or bent over the camper. It just seems this year has been especially wet so far. The best thing is that I am currently sitting in Tn, enjoying the sites and relaxing. So far everything has been great with the PC no issues and everything is working. Gotta love-it when a plan comes together.

Yep!  Mine was coming in from behind the trim covering the wall and lower trim panel, between the coach door and the passenger door. It would run across the floor into the well, and manifested itself by a rust drool from the bottom left of the door frame between the door frame and wall. Found it when i was washing the camper, wondering where the water flowing down the wall was going. Just didnt seem to be enough dripping down!

It was difficult to find because there was a long delay from when the water entered and when you actually saw it in the stepwell.  When i first did the 'hose test' it didnt show. The time required to scrub the roof and sides revealed it. I took off the trim, sealed behind and reinstalled.... never leaked again.  heartshower

Also had the water collecting on the shelf in the undersink cabinet in the bath from the outside shower unit not being sealed. Solved.

I use the brown 'butcher paper' as a tattletale for leaks. I put a layer on the bottom of the stepwell, then put the boards back in. Even if the water dries up, it leaves a distinctive pattern that shows where the water came in. I also used it tucked into the headliner edges and upper cabinets to trace the windshield leak. Same leak the dealer insisted was the upper marker lights.....  (exactly)

Unfortunately the OP has not come back and clarified where the water is causing a concern:

-Truly IN the door, dripping like an old frige door on the ground when open? (That would be a reason to seal the window, like the OP was thinking of)
-or puddled in the frame between the door and screen? (like the door gasket was leaking)
-or leaking in the stepwell, and dripping out somewhere... (like Engineer LT's and my body sealing leaks)
