Gas Mileage on 2551/2552
« on: March 12, 2011, 03:52:10 pm »
Was wondering what the gas mileage is on a 2551 or 2552 (E450) non-diesel.

Thanks

When we returned home someone asked the same question, I said I don't know, why, if it's bad can I take it back.

I have never check m 3100, I would hope it would be a little better then that big class A?????

For your reference, our 2007 2350 E350-V10 averages between 9.2 to 9.5mpg.
- Always towing a vehicle
- Alway 5mph over posted speed limit for towing
- Calculated over a 4000 and a 5000 mile journey, from the time we left home to the time we returned.
- 50% of the time, we use cruise control

You know how it is.....we always seem to be driving into the wind as the praire grass is always leaning in the opposite direction.   :'(  I wish Murphey would ride with the people on the other side of the highway for a change.

On our 2551 we have never towed but we do have a dual bike rack in the hitch.  We get between 8.7 and 10.3 mpg depending on environmental & road factors awa who's driving (I drive 60-62mph, co-pilot's heavy feet cause her to cruise a bit higher).

On our 2007 2700 (E450), we averaged 8mpg.  On our 2010 2350 (E350), we're averaging 12 mpg -no toad, 55 - 60 mph.  In the mountains in Colorado, it went down to 10 mpg.

I would like to know how your gas mileage is calculated.

- By a tank full, here and there?
- Averaged over thousands of miles?
- With one of those electronic scan guage devises?

I have been thinking of buying THIS Scan Guage-II and wonder how accurate it's MPG averaging is.  It seems it would help with real time mpg to assist in determining optimal speed for best fuel economy, under all varying conditions.  It also monitors much more than fuel.

This references it's size.

Ron,
Do you know whether or not this will report the tranny temp in real time?  I have looked through the quick start guide and manual briefly and did not see it mentioned.  Most of info is useful too. but, I am most interested in the temps for a variety of reasons.
Thanks,
L. G.

The X-Guage software upgrade with a new scan guage purchase, mentioned monitering the trans fluid.  I think it would be good to call them, give them your exact year and model chassis.  Maybe they'll have a hard fact answer for you.

Report back here too as I too would like to know for my 2007 E350-V10

Ron,
E-mail sent to Scanguage.  I am not even sure there is a sensor in the tranny that can be read in real time, but by looking through the reporting codes, a code can be set in the vehicle computer for overtemp.  Having said that I don't know enough about the transmission to be able to discern how it could do that.
Life was simpler in some respects without the mass of data available in "real time". Looks like from the profiles we both have 2007 models so it could be a one size fits all answer.
L. G.

Here is their answer:

Hello L.G.

Thank you for your inquiry. The ScanGaugeII does report transmission temperature in real-time. Transmission temperature is currently only available for Ford, GM, and some VW vehicles. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the data!  It sure seems smart to get one of these for oh so many good reasons.  Now to figure out where the best place to mount this thing.  Up high, down low, I'll have to give this some thought.  I sure wouldn't want to mount it in poor taste, yet still in plain view.

I would vote for down low.  Some of the lit (Quick Start or the manual) indicates temperature sensitivity in the display.  I got the impression the display would turn off or fade completely out to recover when it cooled down.

7ish mpg per tank, Always long hauls 70+ MPH, not much worse towing a 6,000lbs 16ft box trailer.
