HWH levelers stopped working

HWH levelers stopped working

Good morning - our HWH levelers have stopped working. The light is on that says the jacks are down, even though they are in the stored position, and the system will not turn on. I have a call in to HWH (made last Tuesday), but from past experience it is next to impossible to get in touch with an HWH technician. My guess is that it is a fuse, but I don’t know which one, and we’re on the road and on a schedule, so we don’t have the time to find an RV service, especially one that could look at it right away. Any thoughts on which circuit could be the culprit? We have a 2014 2552 on the Ford E450 chassis. Any clues would be appreciated - we’ll be home on Thursday, so could wait until we get back, but if it’s an easy fix, I would like to get them working again. Thanks - George.

The power that supplies the hydraulic pump comes from behind the coach batteries.  There are 2ea 200 Amp ANL fuses in parallel that the leveler main power wire is connected to along with the 12 volt power supply for the coach itself.  I believe that the control power wiring comes from behind the leveler control on the lower left of the dash, drivers side.  So if you look behind the controls I believe you should find an ATC fuse holder ty-rapped up, which belongs to the levelers. If you call PC they should direct you to the location. I agree HWH is not very customer orientated, guess its more about the sale.

Good luck, and if I can help just let me know. I can dig into mine if needed and locate the control fuse.  My thought is that if you have lights on on the control unit indicating something, there is control power available. If you don't hear the hydraulic pump running under the coach and the ANL fuses are good check the connection behind the batteries and at the solenoid mounted on the levelers hydraulic unit under the coach between the frame rails next to the propane tank. . Then its either the solenoid that operates the hydraulic pump or a control board issue. I crawled under my coach and snapped a picture of the hydraulic power unit solenoid.  If you look closely at the picture the lower heavy gauge wire runs to the hydraulic power units motor (from the solenoid), the upper heavy gauge wire wire runs from from behind the coach batteries and supplies power to the Solenoid. The smaller wires on the solenoid are from the control circuit starting/stopping the pump. Not sure if it matters at this point but there are 4 solenoid control valves along the top of the hydraulic power unit with manual bypass valves that will allow you to lift a lever which allows hydraulic fluid return to the tank from the leveler lowering the coach and putting the leveler in the stored position. So if you have a control issue and the coach is stuck up on the levelers you can crawl under the coach and lift the levers and stow them and get into travel mode.

Thanks Lance! I will look for the fuse up behind the control pad and see if it’s good. There are no lights coming on on the control pad - when I press ‘on’ nothing happens. The only light that is on is the separate ‘jacks down’ warning light, and it is on all the time. So it could very well be the fuse you have described. I’ll poke around in a little while - still recovering from the drive from Colorado Springs to Cherry Creek SP in Denver. Construction almost the entire way, and heavy traffic besides. Tension headache...  :)

Welcome to Colorado!  Bad roads and constant construction!

Even without construction, that's a conjested route.

Why I moved fom the "front range" (just East of the Rockies) to the "Western Slope" (just west of the Rockies) and haven't regretted it once!

Bye the way.... If those ANL fuses are blown... In theory, you won't get any output from the coach batteries.. But as Lance found out, sometimes the battery wiring to/thru those ANL fuses has been changed.

I posted the other day about a heavy red wire with a fuse holder in line.  No body responded.  Just for kicks, pull the panel lower left of the driver side down on the floor.  Find that heavy red wire and pull the fuse cover off.  See if that might be it?

Pulled the panel but there was no fuse. I think it’s up behind the box in the rat’s nest of wires, and I’m not enough of a contortionist to get up in there. It doesn’t help that there is also wiring for an electric brake controller that the previous owner had installed for towing a horse trailer. It will have to wait until Friday when we’re home and I can get some help getting up in there.

Yes that section south of Denver is a real white knuckler! Been through it a few times and, so far, the northbound is a lot worse than the southbound.

Don: Didn't realize you folks had moved. Still remember and appreciate you showing us your Phoenix when we were considering getting one. It was a big help in the process!

GEO...funny we have the exact same year 2552 and I have about a 10ga. Red wire with a fuse holder in line and you don’t??  Again tucked in behind the small plastic panel, down low on driver side.
I found it while trying to find what is usually a heavy blue wire for a brake controller.  Know now it is mounted up high behind the change cubby.

I’m betting it’s on the other side of the cutout in the dash. I took the panel out, then dismounted the entire assembly from the dash, but didn’t see it. I’m afraid to yank too hard on the wiring until we get home - don’t want to inadvertently disconnect something else this far from home :)

I’m sure it’s got to be there, and is probably the problem. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Found this tucked behind the shroud where the hood release is (I probably didn’t understand wher to look at first) - 5 amp fuse that looks good, but I don’t have any to swap out with it, and my tester is at home (of course). So I guess we go one more stop tomorrow night without levelers :(

Happened to me too!  Check the coach batteries...if they are low or fading, HWH levelers will not go down  good luck
