TRX Ford Transit Owners Comments Request.
« on: June 05, 2020, 07:33:39 am »
I keep wondering what is the perfect rig for the two of us (and our newly rescued elderly Pomeranian and Border Collie, Suchi and Annie,) and have recently become intrigued by the TRX Transit twin sofa plan. Our 2010 2551 is awesome, tricked out, totally reliable and comfortable, well maintained and runs like it, and clean as a whistle (what is it about a whistle that is actually clean??,) but maybe a bit bigger than needed.

We came to PC from a Pleasure-way Sprinter, nice to drive, but it's a Mercedes with no local dealer, and too small for comfort on long adventures.

I'd love to hear honest reports from actual owners of PC TRX Transit, pros and cons, MPG, drive-ability, reliability and service issues, wish they had done this or that, "what the heck were they thinking" sorts of comments now that a few miles have been had.

Thanks in advance for your assistance. tymote

2 Lucky----------Cant speak for the TRX (although I really like it) have driven several Ford Transit HD 350's.  In particular two different WBGO Fuses. Quick, lean and mean.  Both the gas V6 Eco boast and the I-5 diesel have a lot of get up and go.  The handling is very sport car like with min leaning in the turns and pretty forgiving, bit stiff, but not bad on the bumps. Unfortunatly the I-5 diesel is going away on the 2020 chassis.  Two gas models including the Eco boast will be available. The Diesel gets around 15-17MPH and the V6 11-13 MPG.  BTW, It drove much better then the Sprinters.  Theres a pretty good review of the new 2020 Ford Transit on the LTV website.  Detail features of the Transit at the 20:00-25:00 min marks.

With the issues diesel emissions have with Def I wouldn’t touch a modern diesel. Or if I did it would be gone when the warranty was over.

I'm not interested in the diesel either. I should have specified gas. Adding Def was not an issue, just all of the associated sensors complexity. Another reason we sold the Sprinter was that many states were going to 10-20% Bio-diesel (corn-belt states) and Mercedes required a max of 5%.

I am  thinking could only be 2-3 TRX's sold based on what they have for sale..  Could be wrong, could be a few that were customers orders.

I would want to test drive both a  2020 2100 with the new Godzilla V8  and a TRX Ecoboost .
The difference in fuel economy might be minimal and not worth giving up a slide-out and  massive low rpm torque for a couple mpg.

Cal Cruiser-----and to think the HD350 Eco boast are flying off the shelves at Coachman Beyond, LTV Wonder,  and just recently at Pleasureway......no toad and park in any space.  I hope the TRX can fit in

My opinion on the TRX is just that.  It does not interest me for a few reasons, some of them personal.

- A conversion bed is extremely inconvenient to me.

- I work on many gasoline engines so I am very familiar with that type of power train.

- Diesel engines are very sensitive to the fuel blend leaving me to wonder what to do if the popular blend changes again.

- Diesel engine equals propane generator, the propane tank should be bigger to support it.

- The Transit chassis max load is less than I am comfortable with.

Ron

From what I understand the diesel engine in the 2020 Transit cutaway or cab chassis is gone.  They discontinued the I-5 diesel and offer a little 4 cylin 2.0 which will only work well in the camper vans.  Wont work in the class C's.  So two options of V6 gas engines now.

Still a small RV.

How efficient is a turbocharged v6  gas engine under load conditions that require constant  boost, like climbing out of the low desert or up a mountain pass ?

The new Godzilla V8 is available in both  performance and economicy tunes. Ford recommends performance for RV applications, but the 2100 is relatively light. Also the  2100 has a 55 gallon fuel tank vs the Transit' s 26.

Sorry for the hijack .

If PC Trx doesn't bring a twin bed model to market they may get left behind.
We dislike conversion beds too.  Also, if you are used to a toad it would be adjustment to break up camp to go somewhere.
