Winter is the pits!!! Thinking about leaving St. Louis in early to mid May and heading to Grand Isle SP, LA for a couple or 3 weeks. Sorta like making plans for sunny campgrounds during the winter doldrums. Read about Grand Isle SP and read reviews and thought we should try it. We are state park & COE park people, with an occasional county or municipal park mixed in. Military bases are also on our can do list.
With all that said, anyone have any experience with what there is to see and where to stay in that fine state? Reviews are always fine and very helpful, but personal experience is still the best.
We want to see Grand Isle SP as the southern most(ish) park in Louisiana and thinking about Sam Houston Jones SP, but would like some personal input on that also.
A couple of years ago we stayed at Lake Bistineau SP and were disappointed. Didn't live up to the reviews in our opinion. Guess that's why I'm asking PC owners.
thanks
Jack is what we call our PC 2351D, and he has taken us from campers to RV'ers and loving it. We're no longer Team Bob. Just Jack the RV!

We wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and fun travel dreams!

I know nothing about Grande Isle. We did stay in Bayou Segnette SP. It is an excellent location to use as home base when touring New Orleans, World War II Museum, & Barataria Preserve. Nice level sites, free laundry, and half price camping with the NPS/Interagency Senior pass. Don't know if all Louisiana state parks discount.

I highly recommend you eat your way through Louisiana! Meat pies in Nagadoches - Boudin Balls and gumbo and jambalaya in Cajun country - and so much more.
John, Holly, and sometimes Chloe.

Garmp we were at Grand Isle S. P. 3 weeks ago, we've been there several times. The State Park is nice, you can't see the Gulf from your campsite but  a short walk of about 50 yards will put you on the beach. We walked out on the pier and saw dolphins jumping. Shrimp boats were working close to shore. Stop at
Jo Bob's Gas and Grill for the shrimp basket, it's very good. The 8 mile bridge you have to cross to get there offers great views. We like it.
