TV light on

We have the 3100 stored for a few days and when I check on it the RED TV light was on.(the one that say, I'm off) I have turned the house batteries off. Is there some things that stay on?

Hi Billy,

Even with the batteries disconnected, the TV will still see 120V (red LED on) if the rig is on shore power or if the inverter is turned on via the control panel on the wall behind the driver's seat.

The same for our 2007 model year.  That is why I reach into the inverter compartment and kill the power to the inverter there.  Then the TV stand-by goes completely dead.  We have a tripp-lite inverter in our older model.  The inverter in stand by mode uses a lot of battery juice, over 1 amp hour.  I don't know about the newer ones.

Our 2010 has the Xantrex XM1800 inverter.  The manual states that it uses "less than 0.7 amps" when in standby mode.  However, with the control panel located behind the driver's seat, it is easy to just leave it off until you actually need it.

We took our 3100 to Calif. DMV, tomorrow to SMOG, what a bunch of BS. All they want is $$$$$$$$$$. Anyway we did turn off the inverter and while driving it we turned them on, charged the batteries and when we parked it tuned them off. NEET  (cheer)  I talked to a very nice lady at the CHP office, she told me she was looking at the Cruiser and we both highly recommended a Cruiser. She was really happy to "take the tour" of our rig. billy

The way our 2007 Tripp-Lite inverter was wired up at the factory, that control panel switch changes from "Full On" to "Stand By".  The only way to totally shut down is either at the entry door or at the inverter itself.  But doing it at the door also kills the fridge, so the switch on the inverter is the only way when on vacation.

I know you didn't really ask a question here, but I would like to comment anyway!  In our 2010, and most likely your 2011, the battery charging line from the engine alternator is wired directly to the house batteries.  The house batteries will charge with the engine running no matter what you do with the battery disconnect switch at the door or the Inverter control panel on the wall behind the driver's seat.  The battery disconnect switch isolates the batteries from all the 12v circuits in the Converter sub-panel, the engine charge line is still going directly to the batteries.  The Inverter control panel switches the Inverter on to supply 120v from the batteries to specific circuits.  The Inverter is wired direct to the batteries and the disconnect switch has no effect on the inverter performance.

I spent a lot of time tracing the electric circuits to understand how the rig was wired, I may be a little anal (more than a little my DW says) that way but now if something goes wrong I may be able to figure it out.

Thanks Bob, that is the best explication I have seen on how all this works. You said "The Inverter control panel switches the Inverter on to supply 120v from the batteries to specific circuits. " Do you know which circuits the inverter provides power to. We never watch TV unless we are plugged into 120v or on the generator, so I am wondering when I need the inverter. The only other things I can think of that require 120v power are the coffee maker and the DW's hair dryer.

On my 2010 2350 the double plug under the kitchen counter is one of the plugs that works with the Inverter turned on.  There are others that were pointed out to me during my walk-through, but I don't remember which ones they were now.  Just use a tester or a night light in all the plugs with the battery disconnect switch and the generator turned off and the Inverter turned on.  I should do that test myself to refresh my memory on which plugs are wired to the Inverter.

Mine works the same as bobander stated.

My 2007-2350 outlet power as follows.

OUTLETS THAT WORK WITH THE INVERTER (and also with generator & shore power)
- outlet in bathroom
- outlet in bedroom area, located inside the hanging shirt closet, used for bedroom TV
- outlet in front-most right side cabinet, for front TV and surround sound system
- outlet in kitchen, just under the countertop
- outlet outside, weather proof by entry door

OUTLETS THAT WORK ONLY WITH GENERATOR & SHORE POWER
- outlet under the dinette table (no-slide dinette)
- outlet behind the microwave oven
- outlet outside behind the fridge access panel

Did I miss any?

My 2010, 2551 (with sofa option):

OUTLETS THAT WORK WITH THE INVERTER (and generator and shore power):
- outlet in bathroom
- outlet in closet over passenger side bed, may have been for bedrm TV but the TV and DVD are 12v in 2010
- outlet in front cabinet over pass seat for TV and DVD/surround sound
- outlet in kitchen, just under countertop
- outlet outside, weatherproof next to entry door

OUTLETS THAT WORK ONLY WITH GENERATOR AND SHORE POWER
- outlets under each twin bed
- outlets on wall behind driver and passenger seats
- outlet behind microwave (never seen it, but must be there)
- outlet behind fridge access panel outside

Also note that the GFI in the bathroom outlet controls the kitchen and exterior outlets as well.

I really am not complaining about PC now (love them), but maybe they should think about providing documentation in the owners guide that would detail the above info.

Regarding Bob's comment about documentation in the owner's guide, I would like to say a hearty AMEN.  As is true with other makes of motorhomes that I have owned before, PC gives you a bushel basket full of manufacturers installation and operation instructions and a very generic Intro to RVs 101 manual.  It is not specific to the particular model you have and has no wiring diagrams anywhere.  Also, there is only the most rudimentary guidance on the use of the macerator system, but that is pretty typical of what Thetford offers on line.  They also believe one set of instructions fits all, whether you have a built in system from the manufacturer or a portable add on.  I LUV my PC, but really would like a little more info in the form of a manual.  Just as another example, I have no idea where my water pump is located.  I suspect it's under one of the beds, but when you screw everything together, you have to come to forums like this to find out.  Just having some of this documentation available on line in a customer support section on the website would be one great leap for us owners.
