keeping a log of trips

I'm going to start keeping a log of trips. I would like to log miles driven, gas mileage, parks stayed at, general notes about the trip, and things I want to fix or change for future trips. Seems like I forget about fixig small things once I'm home. Is anyone else keeping a log? Can I get ideas. Thanks

I know what you're saying,  it's so easy to forget the little things you notice as you travel that need attention when you get home.   I'm about as low-tech as you can get.  I keep one of those spiral,  2 by 3 inch, paper notebooks, with an ink pen stuck in the spiral,
in the lower cubby hole of the center console.    Always handy and mostly out of the way.    i use it constantly.

We've kept a log since 2007.  I wish I would've started in the beginning in 1998.  I generally write down our miles driven, how much money we spent and other interesting things from the trip.  I also include anything we may want to see should we pass that way again.  As far as money goes, I separate it in to campground $, gas $, tolls, dump fees and other trip related expenses. I write down the date and where we stayed the night.

I don't include our meals if it is something we would have had at home.  Special meals and entertainment are noted separate from trip $.

I keep a notebook up front with the 4x5, lined Post -It notepads to write down our grocery list and one for repairs and needs specific for the RV. I just bring it in to the house when we get home, get what we need done and throw it away.  I'd be afraid of forgetting things if it was mixed in with the log book.

We do add to the log any oil changes etc. and the hours on the generator when it's oil is changed and anything else that we may be asking, "now when did we do so and so?"

I do try to keep things simple.  It has come in handy often when we can't remember where an when.

I've also used these travel journals as gifts for friends with new motorhomes with the same explanation as above.

I win this contest!  I keep the most simple thing imaginable:  a 3x4 index card for each trip with any repairs to be made written down.   Simple mind, simple card.

By the way, I carry two or three of those index cards in my shirt pocket every day to make notes or reminders.   If I wear a shirt with no pocket, I am flat out of luck!

My wife has kept a small wire bound travel journal for our rv trips for probably over thirty years.   Since we mostly use state and national parks, BMI and NF campgrounds, she makes a list of the best spots in each campground. 
If you want to go back somewhere years later, it is really invaluable. 

Well, after having owned airplanes, keeping an RV log seemed obvious.  It probably helped that the previous owner left me his log.  I log all my maintenance, as well as trips.

I do it on the computer in Excel.  I use Excel and the Good Sam trip planner to plan a trip.  Then I write my mileage on my gas receipts.  After the trip, I copy the worksheet to another worksheet in the same file, labeled "Actual", and update it with the actual numbers from my receipts, including the RV parks we use, and any attractions we visited.  I print that sheet and add it to the 3-ring binder that holds my log.

Wow, it seems a little obsessive when I describe it.  My wife thinks it's nutty.  But what can I say?  I'm a computer guy.  For me, the statistics are part of the fun.
