Slide bumps, jumps, pops and shudders

I know I've seen posts on this before (and thought I posted but can't find it).

We have had the intermittent bumping, jumping, loud bangs and shuddering when putting out the slide. Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes it has a little hesitation and sometimes it really gets going with loud bangs.

We greased it, we had Phoenix grease it, we did all the normal troubleshooting and we couldn't figure it out. We'd open the window so we could hear each other and I'd push the button to roll out the slide and John would watch from outside but we couldn't diagnose the problem. Everything looked like it was working as it should.

WELLLLL, it diagnosed itself the last time the slide rolled out. Apparently the slide rolled out and slide topper didn't. The steel brackets holding the topper to our side wall ripped right out of the rig. Once we got the slide back in (inch by inch) John crawled on the roof and I aligned the brackets  from below while he screwed them back on and we have not opened our slide since. We keep checking that nothing has fallen off as we go down the road. We have an appointment with Phoenix in a few weeks to fix that and a few other items.

We have the paperwork for our slide topper and there is nothing we are supposed to lubricate as maintenance. We figure it has been having little lock ups for some time but then it would roll smoothly so we didn't know what it was. We assumed the mechanism UNDER the slide was the problem, not over it. We were wrong.

If you are having problems like this with your slide even after you lubricate the parts below, check the topper.
John, Holly, and sometimes Chloe.

Better the topper than the slide mechanism!  What is supposed to be lubricated below the slide?  I was wondering about that the last time we slid ours.
