new 3 way Anderson water valve
« on: June 07, 2019, 06:32:01 pm »
The new 3 way Anderson water valve has the same problem the old valve had in filling up and overflowing the fresh water tank when you are connected to city water or using the water pump, which is the middle setting.  I called Anderson and so far no response.  I purchased and installed the new one last summer and after setting the rv up this month to take off for the summer the fresh water tank once again overflowed.  Anderson is worthless and I assume the new phoenix cruiser owners are aware of this situation.  I have seen no recommendations or answers on this from anyone.  Very frustrating.  I installed a shut off valve on the fill line between the valve and the water tank which is the only answer i could determine but it is a pain.  If you are using city water its ok to shut it off and that solves the overflow issue but if you want to use the fresh  water tank you have to have it on or the water pump will not work.  So you have to pull up the mattress and get to the inside valve area to do this.  Does anyone have a valve that actually works????  I know i am not the only one to have this issue.  Thanks!

Phoenix installed the new Anderson valve on my rig last June.  20 or so camping trips since and no issues at all.  Works flawlessly.  I did notice that the indicator knob is not perfectly vertical when aligned correctly.  Its off just a smidge and if you set it straight up you can hear water running.  Which might be going into the tank and the root of your issue.  But I never checked, when I hook up I just move the knob so I do not hear running water and all is well.
Try moving the knob off just a bit and listen for running water.

My PC is a 2019 year model.  I have no problems with the valve.  We spent the winter in Texas (3 months) and experienced no problems.  When I switch the valve, I do relieve the water pressure.  I seem to remember this being recommended.  Not sure if it is necessary, but not an inconvenience at all.

Cheers :)(:

Sounds to me that the back flow valve on the water pump is not working.

I believe JaTrax & bftownes may have the solution for you. I too replaced the valve last year. After many many uses, no problems. Ensure there is no pressure on the valve when  changing settings and set the indicator just slightly to the right of top dead center. If this works for you, mark the location with a black marker for future location. Hope it solves your problem.

After switching to the 3-way I still had issues (old thread on that).  Ultimately a new Check valve added to the water line solved the problem - as noted above an issue with the valve in the pump.  The check valve I have requires no changing of settings to use.  It just prevents the water from running back thru the pump and filling the water tank. In my case I did get an email from Andersen offering help if in fact their valve was faulty.

I know, this thread is a year old.   I just swapped out the old 4 way valve with the new Anderson 3 way valve.   I don't know about a year ago, but the valve I ordered directly from Anderson came with a separate brass check valve for the PUMP connection (from inside the coach, the left connection).  It adds about 2" to the depth of the unit when installed.  You can leave it off if you wish.   On my 2551 I had plenty of room for it.

That check valve is specifically to prevent the issue with a faulty check valve in your water pump.  It prevents water from back flowing from the city water inlet, through the pump (from the pump outlet back to the pump inlet) and then into water tank.

So just for information, on any RV (with or without an Anderson valve) if you hook up to City water and your fresh water tank starts to overflow, then it's about a 99% sure thing the problem is in your water pump.

Put new valve in but now its filling the fresh water tank. I've spent days trying to adjust the valve setting. No Luck. So I guess I need a check valve. Does it go on the 3 way valve? And where can I get one?

Thanks, John

I bought directly from Anderson and the check valve came with it.   You might look on their website...  ABCORV. com

Yes, it goes directly on the "pump" connection... Viewed from inside the RV, it's the left connection on the valve itself

I don't know what to think?  Is the filling of the fresh water tank, when the valve is set to city water/dry camping on the Anderson 3 way, a valve problem or an issue with the pump?   Last night, while connecting to city water, I turned the valve counter clockwise to the sanitizing position.   I then (I had not turned on the water from the spigot yet) turned the valve towards the City water/dry camping hearing a "swish" sound.  I am not sure if the "swish sound" was water or air.   What ever happened seemed to clear the line and now while hooked up to city water I am not filling my fresh water tank in the city water/dry camping position.  Would adding a check valve still be advisable?

Dave,

I just happened upon this thread because we also have an overflowing fresh water tank while connected to city water. This is our first extended trip in our new (to us) 2019 3100.  We are in a CG in downtown Ft Wayne without a lot of tools or any mobile service nearby so will try your trick first before starting to tear things apart. I did not realize this was such a problem for a bunch of owners.

Thanks,

Hank

To Hank and Dave...

Yes!   You can get the check valve directly from Anderson.  No idea on the cost, I bought directly from Anderson and mine came with the check valve (nice brass one) included.  Their website is abcorv.com and their phone is 843 616-4625

It goes on the line that goes TO the pump which, looking from the back is the left VALVE connector.   NOT on the input line! The hose input connector fully on the left (from the back) is the INPUT line where you attach the city waterline.

Hank,

Did it make any difference turning the valve counter clockwise and then clockwise back to CityWater/dry camping?    I did get a response back from Keith at PC whose recommendation was to just do what I did, ie. turn the valve counter clockwise and then back to position of the CityWater/dry camping.   I suspect at some point I will need add that check valve as suggested by Don

I was stunned to find this thread, as we just had an issue with our Anderson valve also. On the start of our trip to upper Wisconsin/the UP we encountered a leak from our Truma system. Called Doug and went back & forth with him & his suggestions. Finally drove to the mother ship where he checked out the pump, Truma check vale and the Anderson valve. Turns our the issue was the Anderson valve. Doug replaced that, a new check valve on the Truma and tested the pump and system. Worked lick a charm all the way home. Will test it out further in a week or two again.
The Anderson valve seems to be a common issue, but thanks to Doug I think we have ours straightened out.
Jack is what we call our PC 2351D, and he has taken us from campers to RV'ers and loving it. We're no longer Team Bob. Just Jack the RV!

When it rains it pours! LOL

I’m sitting in the shop with a cup of coffee and suddenly I see water flowing between my boots. I jumped up and behind me a good portion of the shop floor is covered in water.

I immediately go into omg omg the rig is flooded so I rush in to look for the leak; dry as a bone inside. Found no leak inside.

Outside I see water flowing out under the rig under the tank but then I see it’s running out the lockable water fill cover.

Then I find this thread!

Let’s see, what did I do with that spare water pump.

I haven’t used the tank water in several months so I guess this problem has been sitting there like a time bomb waiting for me to turn on the pump, which I did about an hour ago. 😁
