PIC 1 - Our coach door latch, the venerable Trimark 60-1650 was due for replacement. Nether lock cylinder worked, and the deadbolt one was buggered beyond repair.

Mrs V chose the Bauer 013-531.

https://www.amazon.com/AP-Products-013-531-Electric-Motor/dp/B00JXU0CFQ

Nice piece. Very solid, when I picked up the box, I thought there were multiple things inside. Nope. Padding and a heavy door latch.   tymote  UPS!

PIC 2 + 3  - Removed the three torx screws holding the inner cover on. (I tried to drill the rivets out on a previous repair attempt to get at the cylinders.)

PIC 4 - Then the two torx screws on the door edge, between the pins. This will let you take the outside part of the original latch off. It was a tight fit on mine, took a little effort to pry it out.

PIC 5+6 - All parts removed, hole in the door cleaned. The white plate is a DOOR PART not a latch part. It will be reused.

PIC 7 - Put the two phillips screws supplied with the kit through the door plate and thread them into the new latch outer piece. I was not real happy with the fit on the outside, but figured that the inner plate would snug it up.

The replacement strikeplate looked identical to the old one, so I left the old one on. Worked fine so far...

PIC 8 - OW!  OWWWW!   pyho Test slam of the door had the plunger digging into the edge of the strikeplate..  :-[ OK... maybe the new smooth one is worth the effort.. OW...  pyho

Ok... installed the new strikeplate. The kit came with (2)  #4 phillips screws with a blue locktite on the threads. Mine used the same 1/4-20 thread, but were nuts and bolts. I did re-use them. The doorframe does not allow for much adjustment, so its pretty close when you start.

I was not happy with the fit on the outside. Little too much gap  Next episode.

Now on to part Two.

PIC 9 - The latch was not sitting flush on the outside because the two screw thread bosses were hitting the outer edge. Arrows show a bit of black marker giving me a cut line. I left a little clearance for

PIC 10 - the bosses on the other side, which are bigger. This is a sturdy mounting latch.

PIC 11 - Used a grinder with a worn wheel to fit in there. I had to relieve the wood paneling and aluminum plate behind. This door is solid.

PIC 12 - Now the outside is flush. Inside fits well also. The new latch doesnt quite cover the old latch's outline.  (WH) Really?!?  :cool Door shuts smoothly, but seems a bit loose.

I tried to latch the deadbolt, but when you pulled the handle the door opened. Tried closing the door a little more firmly... and it seemed to seat solidly. Too solid.

PIC 13 - The new striker plate is a bit bigger than the old one. This would bottom out on the door, and make complete latching impossible. I have the plunger held back to show the impact area.  Thats why the deadbolt didnt work either.  pyho

PIC 14 - circled the interfering area on the striker plate. On the top I put a line about where I wanted to trim to.

PIC 15 - I modified and polished the old plate. I covered the area that I polished with a thin coat of dielectric grease. Vaseline works the same. The door now double latches, and the deadbolt works smoothly power or key.  (cheer) (cheer)

PIC 16 - Looks great outside, wish it was a weeee bit bigger . (Keys were still zip-tied at this point)

Very happy with it. Locks smoothly, key works well, and having the 2-button lock has us always locking the door. Mrs V is very happy.

We will see how it weathers, but as of now I would highly recommend this latch.  Door is quiet, smooth and with easy keyless entry and locking. 2o2

Are you still happy with the latch? I need to order a new one. Our original got difficult long ago so the factory put their newer lock in. It's been a few years and the newer lock started jamming so we are only locking the deadbolt knob. I figure it's only a matter of time until the whole thing dies on us. Add in John's habit of misplacing keys and the push button lock looks better and better. I've heard horror stories about the keyless systems breaking quickly. I've already purchased magnetic key holders for backup. How is yours holding up?

As a side note... I'm almost afraid to read the forum anymore. I'll read about someone's lock breaking and see all the responses of others breaking and think "we've never had that problem." Then a few days later, ours breaks. It has happened on several different issues, like it's contagious and is transmitted through the internet. I no longer mention things to John until we are away from the rig just in case she is listening. I don't want her coveting shiny new trinkets and parts. Does anyone else experience this weird coincidence?

That is the same lock we installed.  It is going on two years and we love it.  Have used it for 8 months out of those two years and it is still on the original batteries.  We had read that these locks eat batteries but this brand seems to hold up well.

VERY happy with the latch.  The quick-lock feature has us keeping the coach locked all the time, because we dont have to go get the key each time...

:beg  Wonder where we did put the keys to it... might want to have those handy, but so far they have not been needed.

Yep!  Read here about the electric dump valves failing....ours did soon after. On facebook, another owner of a 2005 has a mystery leak they are working on... I posted on the thread friday night, saturday morning came out to a wet headliner.  First leak (after my patch) in a year!

I now work at a ~800 house retirement community, full coverage. I was the appliance manager, and it was AMAZING how for 2 weeks...no microwave problems. Then *boom* a week of them.  Better yet....neighbors that call in within hours of each other (per the work order time) to report 'complimenting' problems - one has no ice, other's icemaker wont stop! ( I used to joke 'Just go next door!') .  Dryer too hot in one house, next door too cold dryer.

OF course, when one house got a new frige all the neighbors call for a 'replacement evaluation' of theirs...  I dont miss doing appliances.  :cool

UPDATE!

Coming in on two years, and very happy with the latch. Batteries are still working well, and we are SO happy with the two-finger deadbolt latch.  Best feature ever.

I keep the keys on the main lanyard, they still have the plastic guards on them. Tested once, not needed yet.  (cheer)

STILL have issues with the striker plate. Just has some discord with the angles. Many times it just bounces off when the door is closed gently. But we work around it. Has not been THAT much of an issue.

Same strike issues with our door latch. Irritating but not a show stopper. LOVE the keypad lock. We full time so we've had to replace batteries several times. We have the key on our key rings but will eventually house it in a magnet box somewhere.

This is slightly off topic.

Our 2007 PC has the standard latch assembly with dead bolt and latching locks.  I found it very irritating to use two different keys to get inside.  I went through hoops to get the tumblers key'd alike.  I later learned I should have driven our rig to our local locksmith.  He can remove either tumbler in seconds, take it inside and key it to match the other.  The entire process take about 10 minutes.

I did it the hard way which still required a visit to the locksmith, but I did achieve one key for both locks.  That has been so much better.  I also key'd alike all the outside compartment and tire locks.  I got my PC key ring down to just 3 unique ones which includes the Ford portion.  It is friendly in my pocket and quick in making things happen, especially in the dark.

3 keys does it all.

But the keys multiply when towing.

I found it very irritating to use two different keys to get inside.

I would find it irritating to have to use even a single key to get inside  >(  ...at least I would if i had to since replacing the latch!   roflol  I have been so spoiled by the pushbutton access. And the 'two finger deadbolt engage' is second nature now.  Even in our driveway it now stays locked 24/7, as going briefly inside for something used to start with step '1-  Go upstairs and get the keys...'  (nod) .  So... i would be guilty of leaving it unlocked more often than not.  :-[

I guess now we are down to 3 keys also.. (cheer)   Original Ford, CH751 and the new 'Just in Case' door latch key.

However, trailer with cart(or Trike) adds 3 more keys. (Entry door, cargo door padlock, vehicle key)

Volkemon, I am glad you like your keyless entry latch, and you are not alone.  A lot of people love them.

As for me, it falls into K.I.S.S.  I placed solar technology in there too.  Maybe one day, I will feel differently.  As I am getting older, I find myself trying to keep life more simple.  I know, I know, having keyless entry simplifies entry.  It's about long term reliability, less to go wrong, batteries oozing acid, etc, etc.  I have a hard enough time trying to keep the two battery powered wall clocks with wireless outside temp sensors working in my PC.  I found it best to remove the batteries after each RV season.
If I forget, I have regret.

Volkemon,

We too are very happy with our Bauer keyless entry.  We are going on over 3 years and it is still one of our favorite mods.  We did notice this winter that it was warning us for a battery change so we did that and should now hold for another 3 years.

Friends of ours picked up a new 2021 2552 at the factory last week and we did the factory tour with them.  Lo and behold, all the units in production had this lock.  A nice upgrade from the trimark. Seems to be standard on all the units now!!!

One of the FAVORITE features of this latch is the two-finger deadbolt engage. Made me a 'lock it every time' guy MUCH to Mrs V's delight.   heartshower

Well, after battery replacement, the feature no longer works.  :cool  Same combo works to get in. Latch operates the same except pressing the 7/8 and 'padlock' buttons no longer locks it.  :beg

Factory closed 15 min ago as I write this, so if the interwebz doesn't get me an answer I will call.

I have yet to use the key except to initially test it.    ;)

Installed the Bauer EM yesterday in 2008 2350. It was a very simple operation, it slipped right in w/out any modification, has smooth operation and I love the Bluetooth. I also swapped out some of the locks so they’re all keyed alike. The locks from Bauer were top notch and their service great.

D'oH!

How to feel like a dumba**  .

I replaced the batteries, and evidently I NEVER entered a personal code, i just kept it on default (3715) and wrote down 4815. It worked fine... except for the deadbolt feature...

Vicky at Bauer was VERY nice when she told me thats what was wrong, and i felt twice as foolish when reading this RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY NOSE... (WH)

So....operator error.  (exactly)   Hope this helps someone. Works as it did before now.  tymote

I’m on my third lock set of the tri mark latch. They simply don’t last.  This is without question my next upgrade.
