Winterizing
« on: October 31, 2018, 01:54:38 pm »
Well, we ran through all the steps for winterizing the water system and it all went well once I found out where the water heater bypass and low point drains are located.  The last step of getting the pink stuff in the macerator has us a little baffled though.  We flushed the toilet as shown by Earl in the video and nothing came out of the macerator hose so we flushed some more with the same results.  I checked the black tank valve and it was open, I also opened the 3" valve just a little and the pink stuff started to come out.  Could it be that I just don't have enough liquid in the tank or have I missed something?

Another question I have is when to de-winterize.  We're going on a trip next March - April to the southwest.  During this trip we'll be in higher elevations from time to time and are concerned about freezing.  Will we be okay if we keep the holding tanks empty?  Will the fresh water system be okay since it's in the coach?

So far we're really enjoying the TLGUYPC, we're planning one last weekend this weekend after a factory visit to fix a few issues we've found in the last couple of months.

Thanks,
Gary

You don't need to worry about the macerator in the newer (2015+).   After *fully* emptying and flushing the black and grey tanks and pumping out all you can with the macerator, make sure you get the left over water out of the hose by shaking to insure all water is out.    Leave the Grey waste valve open.   Then place a bucket under the 3" valve on the macerator (the "emergency" dump valve) and catch any leftover liquid in the macerator.  Close the dump valve on the macerator.

Finally, pour 1/2 gallon of antifreeze in the toilet and the other 1/2 gallon in the shower and sink traps.  I personally put a full gallon in each.

Now close the grey water drain valve.  The waste lines and Maserator should be well protected without having to run the Maserator.

As to spring driving to the Southwest, as long as the weather is over 20 degrees while you are driving you should have no problems.   Engine heat runs under the PC and keeps the waste lines ok.   If you camp overnight, turn on the waste tank heaters.   Make sure you are on shore power... Those heaters take a fair amount of power!  Obviously, keep the furnace running while you overnight.  I set mine to 66 degrees in that kind of weather.

I live in Colorado and use the PC at times during the winter and early spring and have never had an issue with waste lines freezing.

Again, as long as the temp is at 20 degrees or higher!
