I was doing a bit of research to compare the Safe-T-Plus to the Blue Ox Tru Center Steering Stabilizer.  I called Blue Ox to learn more about their product and found out that they are no longer going to offer suspension improvement products (True Center, Trac bars, front/rear sway bars).  They said they would still have part replacements, but only for 3 years.  They will focus on towing products like tow bars and base plates.  I have to admit that surprised me.  Since support is going to drop off in a few years, the Safe-T-Plus appears to be the way to go.

I thought others would be interested in this info.  Has anyone else heard this?  Maybe this has been well known for some time and it was just news to me?

Here is my opinion.  Safe-T-Plus appears to be the standard for motor homes.  It is the most widely used and has an excellent reputation for support during and after the sale.  Why consider anything else?  I don't have a Safe-T-Plus, but I do have a Blue Ox tow bar and base plate.  Blue Ox is the standard in the industry.

If I ever decide to add a stabilizing bar, it will be Safe-T-Plus.

Cheers,

Hi fellows,

Just to set the record straight......maybe Barry had a senior moment as I often do.

The Safe-T-Plus replaces the Ford stock E350/E450 steering stabilizer.  Both are similar in that they resemble a shock absorber mounted horizontally, attaching to a fixed frame member on one end, and to the steering linkage on the other end.

Neither the stock Ford or Safe-T-Plus is a stabilizer bar.  That is something all together different.

Ron,

I guess it is semantics.  I know what the Safe T Plus does and how it attaches from watching the YouTube videos.  Seems like everyone calls them a "stabilizing bar".  Whatever the hell it's called, I don't have one, but I know it's purpose.

Now, how about helping me with some of the questions I have posted about my PC, which get limited comments.

Are you referring to your winterizing question?  If so, I really cannot help you there.  The plumbing is quite different between my 12 year old 2007 and a recent model.  You have that fancy Dial-O-Matic plumbing switch does a few things including winterizing your PC.  I have no experience with it.  I only know what you good people write about it and I did watch Earl demonstrate it once on You-Tube.

A total guess on my part, but I am thinking that Blue Ox did not manufacture their steering and suspension parts. Making tow bars and base plates requires little more than a press brake, welders, plasma cutters and punches. Making sway bars requires some very specialized equipment. (steering stabilizers also do, and totally different stuff!) In todays market, they probably did not have enough room to mark up sourced parts and still make money.

They may only be stocking replacement parts for 3 years, but the wear/replacement items for sway and track bars are somewhat standard, especially in the aftermarket. As far as the steering stabilizer, it really has no wear items beyond the mounting hardware (also standard), so not a lot of worry there.

Ron,
Too much bourbon last night and I get cantankerous; can't handle it like the good old days.  Usually, I have my wife hide the keyboard when I imbibe .  Instead of removing my comment, I'll let it stand and take any hits!  It was a bit brash, don't hold it against me!  I value the info shared on this board.  As I get more familiar with my PC, I hope that I can contribute in a positive way.

Haha!  Kinda like having too much money or too much fun.  After a few oz's of the nectar, I find it best to leave the keyboard untouched.  There have been times where I wake up in the morning and rush to the laptop and start deleting the previous evening's Facebook postings!!  :beg

Bourbon sometimes exacerbates my Red Neck.

Hi Patricia,

The OEM steering stabilizer is black.  Are you sure you have an upgraded Safe-T-Plus?  Look on the back side of it.  They would not have painted the entire part.

This is my 2007 Safe-T-Plus.  I cannot imagine the company changed it much since 2007.
