Dining little opening window fogged
« on: October 11, 2018, 10:44:06 am »
well what do we do now. the little dining windows at the bottom of the big unit ... That open have one that is foggy and also has a collection of moisture on one side. I first thought it was something that I might wipe off then I opened and indeed reached up and it is double pane and there it is. Will see if I can add a picture.

Call the factory and see if they can get a replacement window pane.  You can also try contacting the window manufacture direct.  The company name might be Hehr like our thermal sliders.  Your Phoenix-supplied literature packet may include information on your window supplier.

You may get a much better price working directly with Phoenix rather than the window company because Phoenix does not gouge on replacement parts.  I have seen it so when Kermit owned Phoenix, but I am not sure since the change in ownership.

If you are up to experimentation, repairing the pane would make for an interesting project.  What comes to my mind is most certainly unproven.  That is to bake the window pane at the lowest temp possible at home in your oven until the fog clears up, then remove it and quickly place a well distributed heavy weight over the pane to compress the sandwich in hopes the heat and vacuum created by the cooling air within will reseal the gasket that failed.

Of coarse, first make sure you can get a replacement window in good time and affordably so, just in case the experiment goes really bad.

Ron gives good advice. The window can be easily replaced by Phoenix or a rv repair shop.

Another option is to check with a local window company.  They can split the double pane, dry it and reseal it.

Whether that is cost competitive with a new window I have no idea.

Thanks everyone.. I had a dog leg door with a foggy window in a National and I went to a RV glass co in Hudson, Florida on New York ave I think... With an appt and sure enough they did get rid of the fog and made it beautiful again and price was good. And I saw all kinds of Windows I would like at home so it can be a pricey visit. I am waiting on a little bay door fix... At Alliance RV, Wildwood, across from The Villages and these folks  have serviced this P C 2910T since it was new. Snow birds are not here yet and when the get together got cancelled and I am in the area... I called. Getting new house batteries too.  I am trying AGM. For the house batteries . Soo looking forward to  Charleston.

Getting new house batteries too.  I am trying AGM. For the house batteries.
Switching from lead acid to AGM will be a very nice upgrade.  Your batteries will never boil over, you will never have to add water to them, your battery terminals will always be clean, and you'll never have to pull out your tray except to replace the batteries.... when it comes time again.

If you have 12V lead acid batteries today and switch to 6V AGM batteries, now that is a much more dramatic improvement.  Not just the benefits I mentioned going to AGM, but your batteries will charge evenly, provide more hours of power, drain evenly, and will provide at least twice as many years of service.

Regardless if 12V or 6V, when switching from lead acid to AGM, make sure the setting on your on-board charger is changed to AGM technology because if you don't, things will go wrong and you won't know why.  Changing the setting should be clearly covered in your on-board charger owner/operation manual.  Don't trust the technician.  Do it yourself so you know it was done.  It should be as easy as flipping a switch or swapping a little jumper which will take all of about 5-10 seconds.

I also had one of the same little lower windows fog up. Then a few months later it actually started to collect water between the panes. I ordered a replacement from Carol at Phoenix and replaced it myself, it is not a difficult job. Remove the screen, open the widow partially, remove the twist knob, drill out the 2 pop rivets securing the crank out latch to the widow frame and slide the latch mechanism out of the window channel. Move to the outside of the coach. Remove the round foam seal that is pressed between the little movable window and the large fixed window. Rotate the little movable window up so it is perpendicular to the side of the coach, while slightly moving the window up and down ,pull it outward towards you. Reverse the procedure to reinstall.

I have no earthly idea where the "charger" is... In the class A it was very visible in an overhead cabinet and all kinds of buttons and knobs... I have a small panel with reading lights, and other small buttons and noting pertaining to AGM or anything else . Well I will move the slide in and get the bag of papers out and hope I find something. I fear it may not tell me where the unit is installed however. As for installing a window. At my age I am not going to be a do it yourself window installer. I have enough headaches connecting the tow car lines.  And so it goes . Thanks for all the heads up.

Ron D, would you please expound on what has to be done when going from lead acid batteries to AGM.  I have been in contact with Henry j and have no idea if any alteration was done when she had AGM s installed last week.  I have been in text contact with her but can't really offer any help.  Thanks, Larry

Hi Larry,

You have a 2015 model with a separate inverter and converter than our combo-unit.  Therefore I cannot offer specific details as to what you need to do when changing from Lead Acid to AGM.  Read through your converter/charger owners manual to get specifics.  You never know....it might be possible your later technology units are smart enough to detect and automatically adjust to the proper battery type.  You need to make sure it's been made right whether done automatically or requiring you to do it manually.  Maybe someone else with your specific setup will provide specifics.

Ron

Thanks Ron, it is not my rig but belongs to Henry j, Patricia.  She had the AGM put in last week and wanted to be sure it was done properly.  I think she is going to check with factory with what needs, if anything, to make her system operate properly.   Thanks, Larry

well my search of things turned up the book for the 1800 whatever it is. No where in the 81 pages did it say anything about AGM however it did mention lead acid several times. What the adjustment is or should be is still a mystery.  I have not called at the plant today. So far the readings have not exceeded what was suggested as max or min. THis was a 2016 install so made prior to that. If I do find out what the adjustments are if any I will  let you know. there are some things it changes on its own sensors it appears.  I have completed my winterizing. With the humidity by Titusville not a worry.
