There seemed to have been a number of complaints of deteriorating seat covers around that time. Word was a bad batch of fake leather, but that is speculation. There is even a poll on that someplace.
Anyway, they can be recovered at not too high a price. And it does not need done by an RV company. Search in your area for upholsterers or "auto upholsterers" and get some bids on the job. We just had four chairs and a dinette done in our house and were pleasantly surprised at the cost. We would have done it years ago if we knew it could be done for that cost.
