Sanicon fail
« on: September 12, 2018, 12:32:26 pm »
Hi, I am a new Phoenix Cruiser owner.  I scored a 2007 PC 2400 with only 9100 miles on it and 2 hours on the generator — we are loving it, and we are off on a grand adventure.  Unfortunately when we went to dump for the third or fourth time, the Sanicon system failed — we rushed to Walmart and got normal 3” sewer hoses and emptied the tanks.  I want to confirm we did it right — just hooked up the 3” line and pushed the black tank button open, emptied, left the black tank open, opened the grey tank and emptied (thru the black tank, I think) closed both tanks and done.  I don’t want to “hurt” the system as we are miles and miles from home.  Also notice a little drip from the back 3” opening which we will stop at Camper World to get a screw on manual sewer valve so I don’t get any “surprises”.  Any technique comments are appreciated!  We rved for years and now my husband can’t drive, so I bought this and we are “on the road again”.  So happy!

Hi Kat,

Sorry about your problem but sounds like you handled it!  Many of us carry a 3" hose "just in case".  Things work just as if there was no Sanicon on board.
However you might want to modify your procedure just a bit.  You have two separate tanks and the gray water does not flow through the black tank.  But will flow into the black tank if both valves are open.

Nothing wrong with your procedure but this is the more accepted one:
1) Connect 3" hose
2) Open black tank valve and allow to drain
3) Close black tank valve
4) Open gray tank valve and allow to drain
5) Close gray tank valve
6) Clean up and store hose

You might also have tank flush valves on your rig to flush the tanks when doing a more thorough cleaning but I am not sure if those are installed on your model year.  And they are only for extra cleaning or year end cleaning anyway so don't worry about that now.

Enjoy your trip and let us know how things are going.

Please explain
Quote
the Sanicon system failed

If it is not turning, take end cap off and turn backward then forward with a screwdriver, you could have just got something hard in there, but you should be able to clear it.
Try switch on-off again.
Did your break Housing or seal?

Hi Kat,

We own a 2007 model 2350, technically identical to yours.

jatrax and keelhauler provided excellent advice.  Definitely follow it.

If you conclude your Sanicon macerator needs to be replaced, you will find a Sanicon brand macerator to be extremely expensive, around $450.  I found a close copy macerator for less than $60 with shipping included.  You can read about it by CLICKING HERE.

If at all possible, I highly recommend you re-use your original cutting blade on the new macerator.  I suggest this because our new pump works harder than the original pump, I think because of the cutting blade itself.  The original low profile blade offers much less resistance for higher speed pumping and chopping of solids.

Now that you are carrying a 3" gravity sewer hose, you might find my 3" sewer hose storage solution applicable to your model 2400.  CLICK HERE to read about it with pictures.

As Keelhauler stated - your Sanicon pump may well have a minor jam - on the back of the pump, remove the black rubber cap (if you have one) and you will see a screw - turn it a few times to the right and left, and  the  pump should work.  In most cases this is the fix rather than a wiring problem.

Thank you everyone for your helpful suggestions.  We are off on a 30 day adventure ( 3 weeks in) and are dumping the traditional way.  As soon as we get home and clean everything out, we look forward to seeing why the maciator pump stopped and trying all of your suggestions.  We think at one time our rv had a mice problem, and we are finding electrical problems, perhaps the electrical to the M Pump died.  Or it is just stuck?  In a post I read that mice like to go up the A Columns, which I am assuming are are at the back of the cab on either side, and then mice got in the tv area........
I can hear Everyone’s collective shudder (electrical problems) but we paid so little we have a little left to put back into “her”.  We had forgotten how fun it is to be “on the road”!
