Water in Outside Storage Drawer
« on: August 28, 2018, 03:38:19 pm »
I have a 2016 model 2351 purchased used from Phoenix.

In a hard rain, whether driving or stationary, water accumulates in the outside storage drawer.  This does not occur in a light rain, only when it really comes down.

No moisture on flip-up shelf in storage area.  The lift up door, hinged at the top, latches securely when closed.  Since it happens when moving or not moving, the water is not coming from the drain hole in the bottom of the drawer.

The prior owner, I believe, put some black tape along the lip of the drawer.  It does not seem  to help.

Is there a seal of some type missing?

I am open to suggestions/solutions.

Never had the problem with my 2006 2100 but did get water in the drawer on my 2015 2552 this year.  We had some hard blowing rains so I thought it was a rare occurrence and not alarmed.  I would like to learn if there is a way to avoid in the future so let’s hope an expert has a cure.

There is a rubber seal / gasket around the tub / drawer on mine.  Does yours not have that?

Ours fills also. Always has. 2013 2552. We have the gasket but there must be a gap somewhere. Jatrax, your comment indicates yours has never leaked. Can you post a pic of your seal so we can see if there was a change somewhere down the line?

Water also gets into the bottom drawer on my 2014 2350, I slightly enlarged the drain hole in the bottom of the drawer. I had the same thing happen on my 3100. It has not been a serious issue for me, I don’t put anything in the bottom drawer that would be damaged by moisture.

I have some water intrusion into the drawer..not much but the evidence is there. Looking at it, mine has a gasket around the three interior sides of the drawer and a gasket where the upper door could meet the drawer. However on the inner front corners of the drawer are two places where the the fiberglass has been hand notched and the notches leave a path for water into the drawer.

I couldn't quite figure how to seal those spots without affecting how the door slides in so I have added a stick-on 5/16" gasket to the front outer edge of the drawer. I am not sure whether that will keep the water out or even if the gasket will stay on..a bit of an experiment at this point.  (WH)

Open to to other suggestions. And as Retdep posted, curious whether others' PCs came with a front edge drawer gasket.

Mine looks like a refrigerator gasket.  And no. no leaks at all so far.

(if it doesnt copy, pls go up to JTrax's post and look at the pic)

Looking at the picture, I cant tell if the trim over the body/base seam is higher than the gasket.

The trim strip that is over that seam was NOT sealed at all on our (2006) 2350, and the water went behind the trim, in the seam, and was the mysterious source for the water leak that rotted out the wood on the bottom door step.  Also allowed water into the side compartment where it appears this drawer is. Removing the center screw cover trim on the strip  allows this trim piece to be removed. If it is like mine, there is a gap between the body panel and base panel that allows water in. I sealed mine up with urethane sealant and replaced the trim after... and NO more mystery leaks.

I found it when washing the coach I saw there was white rivulets that went into the top of the strip and did not reappear on the bottom...  :beg  Never found it when I spent hours running a hose all over the door looking for the leak.  pyho

we think they found the issue on my 2017 the second time I asked Elkhart to look at it.  The gasket behind the upper drawer was not in correctly - when the door shut it pushed the gasket down instead of sealing against it.  The water was running down the side of the RV and seeping in behind the drawer.  Didn't have to have the rain blowing towards that side for it to happen.
