BFTOWNES asked as an aside in a different thread:
Steve,
I was going to reply in a private message, but thought others might be interested in the "Harvest Host" program.  My question is...in general how pleased are you with the program?  My understanding is for an annual fee of $49.00, you have the privilege of overnighting at participating wineries along with the suggestion of buying a bottle or two.  Sounds like a great idea.

Barry,

We really enjoy staying at Harvest Host sites! There are farms, museums, distilleries and wineries that allow 1-4 RV's to boondock on their properties for a night. The last place we stayed in South Caroline was farm and distillery. We had drinks with the owner on the back deck overlooking the apple orchard as he told us the history of the property. The $49 per year registration "unlocks" the interactive online map to reveal the names and details of each host. I call 2-3 days ahead of time to ask about availability and in warm weather, if I can run the generator at night. You must be self-contained so your onboard water system must be ready. As you mentioned, it is expected to make a purchase at the host's business which is not a problem! We have enjoyed cold cider, good wine, fresh cheese, and donuts while having some beautiful properties all to ourselves after closing time. Some do not allow pets.
Our route to Duluth next month will definitely include several Host stops. We have found two Host nights in a row followed by a campground is just right for refilling fresh water and dumping black/gray.

Thanks Steve,

I pulled the trigger and signed up.  We pick up our PC in late September and plan to head east from Elkhart.  Will hit a couple Thousand Trails parks including Hershey PA.  Then head down Skyline Drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway on the way back to Tennessee.  I have watched numerous videos and read several revues of Harvest Hosts.  Looks great.  Alice and I have always enjoyed a day or two of boondocking in the right locations.  Looking forward to visiting some HH sites.

Thanks again, and sorry for hi-jacking your thread.

Cheers  :)(:

Steve,
Thanks for the information on Harvest Hosts.  We have looked at that but not bought.  I think we will for next season.

Best,
John
