Hope everyone's busy with vacations, planning, taking, or reminiscing!  I received a sales sheet with several options on it from Keith Kinder.  I was wondering what your opinions are.  We have a 2552 on order.  Any comments positive or negative would be most appreciated!

Tinted Front Window Door Windows

I had our first motor home rust proofed with Ziebart.  It was a black wax-like material they sprayed on everything steel.  Aside from the mess, I had three issues with the warranty, process and material.

1) To maintain the warranty, they required I return annually for touch-up, hence I always dealt with a mess.  After the 3rd return visit, I stopped going back.  I wondered about the extra thick build-up of black stuff applied over a dirty chassis.

2) They drilled holes in lots of places, then plugged the holes with plastic caps.  That bothered me.

3) After about 15 years, the extra thick black build-up dried & cracked, then curled looking like potato chips hanging on the frame and elsewhere.  This caused moisture to collect in places that would otherwise dry quickly.

So in the end, I felt the product did more harm than good.  I would never rust proof another vehicle.  Also considering the issues it causes with repair & replacement of some parts.  The stuff makes working in the area a miserable task....speaking from first-hand experience.

I have no opinion with the other options.

Definitely would recommend the Safe-t-plus steering and the cab window tinting.

That’s way too high for the tint if all they are doing is the chassis.   You can do much better elsewhere , just make sure you get Ceramic tint. Everything else is junk. And for that price are they only doing the side windows or are they including the windshield? I’m betting because most states it’s illegal to tint the windshield they are only doing a top strip and the door windows. I live in the low desert so all my windows are ceramic tinted. Even though it’s illegal to tint the w/s I have the lightest on the W/S and one shade darker on door windows with all other windows on the cars darker yet but no limo tint. The PC follows suit with WS and door windows in ceramic. Even the cop cars out here use the ceramic tint on all windows. It’s a huge difference in 115 + degree heat.  I’ve never been hassled but it’s so light you have to really look for it.

The safe T plus is a great addition. That being said it’s an easy install so it’s a matter of if you want to save yourself some cash. You can buy the safe plus and bracket for around 450.   


So I tend to shop around first, then decide.

We love our Magne Shades. We put them on every time we are in camp more than one night. Ours are full black.

Any option to help keep the cab area cooler is money well spent. I have Magna Shades and love them. They're custom made to fit and help keep the heat out. I also would recommend Safe T Plus. 

Don't tint the windshield.  I hated driving my previous motorhome at night after an installer replaced my broken windshield with a tinted one. it's like driving with sunglasses .

Calcruiser, they must have installed standard tint. You don’t get that effect with ceramic, it’s difficult to detect and amazing on how much it stops the suns heat transfer. It is pricey however. With The cheap junk an entire car is done for under 200 where a good cereamic job will run close to 500.  It can also be peeled right off even a couple years later where the junk you spend hours with a razor should you need to remove it. All that said it is not legal on the WS and if you live with Adam Henry cops in your area like some of the beach cities or speed a lot where your constantly getting pulled over then it may not be a great choice.  The reason I mention being pulled over a lot is the one way to detect it is by looking from the outside in at an angle of the WS. The cheap stuff is a diff story, but then it does little to stop any heat anyway.

Thanks for all your replies!  We went with the tinting, Magna Shades, and Safe-T-Plus.  I know it could be done elsewhere cheaper but I'm willing to pay for the convenience of having it all done and not needing to mess with it later.  I absolutely hate hot weather so if there's any summer camping on the schedule after retirement it will be in the far north so I wasn't too concerned with the tinting for temperature control I just wanted it more for glare control.  While I was talking to Kieth he mentioned an extended warranty for just over $3,000 that covers everything in "the box" along with roadside assistance for three years.  I typically feel that extended warranties are a waste of money but am looking for some input as to whether that's the case with a motor home. 

We're looking at a delivery date in August sometime....................YIPPIE!!!

$3000 seems high, since PC is very reliable and takes care of first year and has inexpensive parts available thereafter.

We did go with the extended warranty when we purchased even though I never buy those.  As first time RV buyers I was a little nervous about the potential of something failing.  The warranty we got at the time was (I think) $2,500 and if not used at the end of the contract period they agree to refund the purchase price.  I'm not holding my breath but I hope they stick with that.

After owning our coach for over a year I would not buy the extended warranty again.  PC has been great about fixing things so far and they also have a good reputation for selling parts if needed down the road.  And most appliances are swappable for something new if that becomes necessary.
