four way water valve
« on: June 09, 2018, 07:58:45 pm »
I have gone thru several of these water valves as they have failed and the result is the water tank keeps filling and overflows.  Kermit sent me new valves and said to be sure to turn off the water pressure when changing the settings.  I have done this but it looks like once again the valve has failed so the water tank is filling when attached to city water.  I was going to add a manual turn off valve under the bed to the line coming in to the water tank but seems to me the valve should work properly.  Has anyone else had this issue and resolved it?

thanks much.

The 4 way valve manufacturer is redesigning the valve in Brass for better durability.  I was told they expected the new design to be available later this summer.  It might be worth a call to the manufacturer to talk with them directly.  http://andersonbrass.com/rv_4_function_fill_station.php

I had Phoenix replace a leaking 4 way valve about a year ago and so far I have not had a problem.

Sometimes the check valve in the water pump can stick open and also allow water to back flow to the FW tank and cause it to overflow.

Good to know.  Thanks i will contact them.

I don't think the water pump is the issue as the valve is set to city usage.  This time the tank has filled partially so it could be a slow leak but in the past you could hear it flowing into the tank quite fast and overflowing.

I made a stop in Elkhart last week to get an initial oil change and have a few minor issues fixed before heading north to Alaska. Because I had a small leak when hooked to city water, Dave Ponsler had Doug replace the 4 way valve with one of the brand new brass valves. It took about an hour to install. It’s different- the new valve looks very substantial and only has three positions: Fill at 9 o’clock, winterize at 3 o’clock,  and city/dry camp at 12 o’clock.  This means you no longer have to switch from City to Normal !!!!!!  So far the new valve seems to be working perfectly.  If we have any problems I’ll be sure to  post.  All I can say is customer service at Phoenix is phenomenal

Did this require changing out just the valve core or a complete replacement of full valve body, panel, door, etc?

I was at Phoenix today and they changed out my 4 way valve for the new 3 way brass one.  Seems much more robust.  It is a complete replacement, with a new panel and valve, not just a valve stem replacement.

What was the cost for the change?

No charge.  It was done as part of my list of 'adjustments' that they did this week.  I asked what I owed and they said it was all warranty work.

Re: four way water valve and HDMI cable addition

We're picking up our new 2910D on Tuesday of next week so I called yesterday to see if we would get the brass 3 way valve and add to an additional HDMI cable for future ROKU use (per the comments here!).  Dave P called me back quickly and told me the new brass valve had been integrated into the line so it was already installed and took a change order on the additional HDMI cable.  My order process began with Earl and is ending up with Keith/Dave.  We've added a few things and made some changes and it has gone extremely well including financing.  We are very excited to pickup our new unit!

For those of you with the new 3 way brass valve, can you provide comments about how it is working? Especially would be interesting for a comparison of impressions from those that have changed out the older 4 way valve such as John Trax.

Thanks!

It works great,  We have been using it everyday for the last 4 weeks.  It's now a 3 way valve, no need to turn the valve when switching from city to internal.  I like it

Definitely feels better made, but that is subjective.  Turns smoothly with no issues unlike the older one.  Since it is now a three-way there is no need to switch between shore water and tank water.  Now the only reason to touch it is to set it to "tank fill" or "winterize".  One less thing to worry about when setting up camp.

Another thing I noted is that if connected to shore water and the water pressure is low and the pump is on the pump will run and make up the water pressure difference from tank water.  Not sure if that is by design or just a consequence of it being now a three way valve.  Startled me when it happened, I had left the pump switch on when connected to shore water without noticing.    Turning off the pump then reduced the pressure to what the shore water was at.  I forget what park we were at but when I checked my pressure meter the water pressure there was about 30psi.  I assume the pump is set to 45 or so and anything under that and the pump will try to make it up.
