Electric bed
« on: April 14, 2018, 02:05:04 pm »
I got the large electric sofa bed in my 2400. I was told if the electric part of the bed fails, there is no way to manually put the bed up or down. Any suggestions?

Are you saying it has failed or are you just doing contingency planning?

If just planning I suppose you could buy a spare motor / gear box and carry it in the spare parts box on the chance it will fail.  But honestly I don't see many complaints about failure.  It is not a complicated mechanism.   Run it in and out a few times and make sure it runs smooth, that's what I did on mine.  I did notice one of the wires was not fastened as securely as I liked and I added a couple zip ties to that.

If it was me I would worry about something else and just figure I had to sleep on the couch a couple nights until I could get it repaired on the off chance it does fail.

There are some posts on the forum about an electric bed that failed. In that case the problem was a loose wire and there was an easy fix. If memory serves, remove the vertical front piece (screws are under the "buttons"...I think) for access to motor and wires.
We have the 2100 and electric sofa is our only bed. Thus, it is put in and out every day we are in the RV and it has not failed.

Just curious now that it's been brought up, the electric motor and gearing. Any maintenance issues such as lubrication or cleaning that I should be doing? Thanks, Lee

Actually for those with the electric bed in the slide out, a bigger problem would be getting the slide out in with the bed extended and unable to retract..wouldn’t you agree?  As a matter of fact, my wife and I were discussing this very scenario and waiting for a call back from Paul’s Seating Inc. as to what can be done if this situation arises....our motto has always been...hope is not a plan!
