Another new 2552!
« on: March 09, 2018, 02:44:01 pm »
Phoenix delivered another bouncing baby coach this past Monday when we picked up our new 2552. It was spotless and open for inspection when we arrived at the plant. Earl did the extensive walk-through (more on that in a bit) covering all the controls, hidden valves, and features. I was a bit peeved when I saw that the mirror had been installed next to the stove instead of the stainless steel panel that I shipped earlier. The mirror is held on with double sided tape so I can swap that out later. All other options were installed and working properly.

I drove the coach and my wife followed in the National rental to drop the car at South Bend Airport. We went via Hwy 20 for a longer shakedown trip. Then my lovely bride picks up Dan, a new friend in the rental parking lot. He too was dropping off a car and needed a ride to the Coachmen lot in Middlebury to get his new buggy. I felt good about helping out someone else during the first drive; good road karma! Here is the rest of the walk-through story. We described the experience at Phoenix while he reported his delivery was basically; thanks for the money, here are the keys, there is your coach. It was filthy outside, not prepped inside, and did not even include a temporary tag for his trip back to CA. It was on him to go to DMV and get a paper tag.

We spent the night in the Phoenix parking lot (note, use your own shore power cord and plug into the box by the gate) and woke up to a dusting of snow on the roof  but thankfully not the roads. A quick check of the tire pressure found us low so Bob aired us up and we were on the way. We took US 31 south and then picked up I-65 at Indy. Spent three nights on the road getting used to the new buggy. Happy to report no problems at all. In a separate post John told of his troubles with the EMS electrical monitor (glad it is working for you now!) but ours performed flawlessly.

Averaged a little better than 9 mpg through the hills of TN and KY, and got 10.1 through AL to arrive at home in Pensacola. The Pioneer radio is NOT one to just hit the switch and find a station. It is definitely a two beer orientation to set-up and learn the radio and navigation features. I have no intention of using Sirius so paid no attention to it.

Now to get the furry kid acclimated and some weekend familiarization trips before an extended run up to Boston in July.

Enjoy!!

Steve

Glad to hear of your good experience, Steve.

My experience was also positive, despite the troubles I described with the surge protector. The test of an organization is how they respond when something goes wrong. As I said, I'm very happy with the way everyone at Phoenix responded to my problems. I'm now in an unremarkable RV park near Amarillo, TX, with over 3000 miles on the 2552's odometer. I finally found somewhere warm enough to test the air conditioner. It works great, as does everythng else, now, on the coach.

I agree with you about the Pioneer stereo and nav system. It sounds great, but is best operated by a passenger, ideally a passenger with high tolerance for user-hostile devices. But I knew that when I ordered it, so I can't complain.

Congratulations Steve!  I hope we have an equally superior experience when we pick up our rig in a month or so (guessing).

Beautiful! Don't you just love that gleam when Sun kisses her? I still smile every time I see ours.
