Kyle no longer with Phoenix
« on: February 16, 2018, 01:19:35 pm »
I spoke with Earl this past Monday to confirm delivery of our new 2552.  He told me that Kyle Herschberger, the Phoenix Business Manager, had left the company the previous Friday, and that he (Earl) was temporarily covering the business manager job, as well as his own. Kyle and family are moving to Las Vegas, Earl said.

Job transitions are a normal part of the business world, and I don't read too much into this.  Kyle probably will be happy to leave Indiana winters behind him. But having worked in a small company, I know that the departure of a key person necessarily causes some scrambling.  I'll be in Elkhart this Tuesday to pick up our new RV ( :) ) and I expect I'll learn a bit more then.

I have purchased two rv's from Phoenix. Both times, the paperwork was ready and proper. He did the walk around on the last which was a trade. We traded our 2016 2351 for a 2017 2552 extended. All was well. Earl told me that he and Kyle worked for an RV dealer prior to Phoenix and when Earl moved to Phoenix, he had Kyle come with him or shortly thereafter. Wonder what he is doing now ???

I only met Kyle one time but I have enjoyed his videos with Earl. I wish him well in what ever he does in the future.

Has anyone besides me noticed that Amiee seems to be gone also? Aimee was the web master. She is Earls daughter.

She is still posting in the 'for sale' board.  Or at least someone using her login is.

But that person is listed as guest now, and 'aimee' is no longer a user name in the list.

I was ready and excited to pull the trigger on a PC this year, but I have to admit I have concerns about all the turnover and loss of 'historical knowledge'. I fear I am about a year too late to ensure a quality unit and service after the sale through the warranty period. I hope I'm wrong, but it does have me investigating my secondary brand choices... and that means I may have to take a 'cookie cutter' unit with no personal modifications... and that sucks.

loss of 'historical knowledge'.
Not sure what you mean by this?

Kyle was the office manager.  Good at his job but nothing to do with production.  Everyone else is still there, including Kermit who now has even more time for design work.  And they added a new experienced manager (Dave Ponsler)to handle final fit / finish and customers.

Sorry to see Kyle go but unless I'm missing something I don't see an issue?

Since 2007 when we bought our PC, person #4 will be taking on Kyle's position.  I wouldn't make anything of it.

I do wish Kyle (and his family) all the best for his contributions.  He did seem to be a great asset for Phoenix.

We bought in 2013 and Kyle wasn't there yet. Actually, Earl wasn't there yet. We had the previous sales rep that had tons of "historical knowledge"... yet told me I was wrong when I said the grey tank on the 2552 was smaller than the black (off we went to Bobby so he could prove I was wrong... I wasn't). We bought in spite of him, not because of him. Earl seems to be a vast improvement for many reasons. Both the sales rep and one of the office staff left between our order and pick up.

There was no business manager yet. I think Kermit and the office staff handled that back then. Kyle offloaded them and assisted with marketing. I met him a few times and heard good things about him. I wish him well in his new adventures.

I have no qualms about recommending Phoenix to others. If businesses don't change and grow, they die.

Got it, thanks for the reassurance. This is such a big purchase, I'm just nervous with all the changes. And I think by the time I actually order and mine gets built, Kermit will also be gone.

If you don't buy a PC, what are you going to buy? I've looked at all of them, only one other rv I would even consider. My current rv had a lot of issues when new. After I got everything fixed I still had a cheap rv. Cheap cupboards, no name appiiances , outside compartments didn't line up, soft floor, sofa bed you cant sleep on. I assume there will be some repairs to my new pc but when the bugs are worked out I'll have wood cabinets, name brand appliances, nicer bed (I hope) laminated wood floor, and other options that the other guys wouldn't offer. I'll let you know if I'm disappointed with my new PC. My current motor home has 234,000 miles.

Kermit will retire one day for sure.  The RV industry as a whole is notorious for turnovers. If you find a company that produces a high-end motor home that can be customized and has production and support staff that has been there since day one, let the rest of us know (especially if the pricetag is comparable to PC).  We have owned two high-end motor homes before the Phoenix Cruiser.  One went belly up after the heirs did ‘t care to continue their father’s work and the other is thriving still.  In both cases staffing did not determine after the sale service.  Only you can decide what you are ultimately buying - the people or the product.  PC makes a very good product.  It’s components can be serviced by any reasonable RV repair shop. I doubt if you will have problems with the plumbing, electric or cabinets themselves (the closures are another matter).  The PC specific items may be able to be repaired elsewhere, I don’t know.  However, no matter who is sitting behind “the big desk”, as long as PC is in business you will have somewhere to have warranty or other work done.
