2017 Valve Stems

My 2017 2351 has metal valve stems. Inside is braided,outside solid tube.  The outside tire on passenger side appears to be leaking as the tire will not hold air.  It seems the wheel insert may have shifted and perhaps loosened or damaged the stem,  Wondering if the fix is as simple as tightening the knurled nut at the base of the stem.  Any experience/advice appreciated.  When I got the coach I asked what brand these stems were but got no definitive answer.  Going to recheck with factory.

your lucky its the outside tire. I would use water with liquid soap and spray it around the valve stem. The water will start to bubble where the leak is. If the leak is around the valve stem you can try snugging up the nut till the bubbles stop forming. If you have valve extension hoses spray them also to see if they developed a leak.
If it is the stem that's leaking you have nothing to lose by trying to stop the leak. If the leak cant be stopped you will still have to have it repaired. But if you do fix it you saved on a repair bill.
In a pinch I have used windex glass cleaner to find leaks. You have the pump spray on the bottle which makes it handy.   

Mine leaked on the trip home from the factory resulting in a flat tire when we woke up one morning.  Long story told elsewhere.

Short version:  Tightening the knurled knob with a pair of pliers solved it and it has not leaked since.  Using soapy water to check that you have it stopped is a good idea.  It made me very aware that you need to monitor the tire pressure on a continuous basis.  I check at every stop.  I also bought and carry a VIAIR compressor in the trunk.  It has allowed me to fill up on the road several times.

I think a tire pressure monitor system is a good idea, but I have not spent the money on one yet.

The first thing in order for the PC when delivered should be replace all six tire valve stem extensions. I'm not sure if Ford or the PC plant puts them on but they are a tire failure waiting to happen.  I could not access either inside valve stem for the duals when we got home. It is money well spent to purchase "good" extensions and have them installed on all six tires.

Thanks, Thomas.  Do you have any recommendations for stems/extenders that will work well on the PC?  I have made inquiries about solid (vs. the woven) extenders at several tire places since last summer and I get blank looks.  Maybe I should go to a truck shop instead?  Do you have any details on a stem/extender setup compatible with the wheels covers equipped on the PC?  One shop pointed out to me that the wheel cover holes are pretty small and may limit options.  Thanks for whatever help/advice you can offer.

Sailors35,  I have always used the braided flexible extensions on the rear duals (4 total).  The front, I have solid extensions that almost pass through the wheel covers as I also have TPMs on them  as well as on the rears.  I said "good" extensions as if you look the least expensive ones they can be trouble also.  There are many stories about failures with people who purchased what they thought was a great guy.  I paid about $100 for the rears and about $20 for the fronts.  I have also noticed these wheel  covers have a tendency to move and I have placed clear hose around the rear extensions  so the covers won't cut them.  I'll just keep an eye on them so not to have them cut.  The covers are  sharp and will cut you up if not careful.  Hope this helps.

There are 8 nut covers. 4 unscrew off with mine.

And, Swiftboot, on my 2014 model you just pry the cover off.  Nothing to unscrew.

Before I changes to Aluminum wheels, I would use Tie wraps around the covers and wheels through the holes on the inside. worked very well for me.

As a side note - we carry a small bottle off bubbles to test for leaks on air valves and propane connections. They are also a fun way to relax and meet new people. So, three for one: safety, stress relief and social ice breaker. If you get a multi-pack from the dollar store, you can give some to the noisy kids in the next site and tell them it's really awesome to waft bubbles from the top of that slide waaay over there.

I bought a pack of 10 stainless steel wire ties and put 2 on each hubcap/wheel. Run them thru the hole in the hubcap , thru the corresponding hole in the wheel , and then back out thru the adjacent holes. Installed them 180 degrees apart. Cut the excess off with wire cutters. Very strong, same color as the cap, barely noticeable. Should keep the cap from rotating and damaging the valve stems. This is on a Mercedes not a Ford. Bought at Lowes, Home Depot probably has them also.
