Insect Screens for Vents

Have been looking on-line at vent screens for fridge, water heater and furnace.  Not so impressed with what I have found.  Considering making my own, but would also appreciate advice or experience of others.

Would suggest you not put screens on fridge, water heater or furnace.  The insects that build nestd/webs in the burners are so small, a typical screen won't stop them.  If you put in screens small enough to stop those tiny critters, you will block siginifent airflow and cause the same problems.

In addition, the refrigerator needs a lot of airflow just to cool and blocking the vents will cause very poor performance of the cooling system.

Great advice on the small insects...in our area, wasps can build size able nests in as little as 2-3 days so the screens we use(stainless steel) are very effective and can be purchased at a good RV supply store.  Be sure to get mfg suggested screen as opposed to generic.  We've never had a problem with restrictive air flow or venting on any appliances.

Something you might consider is attaching dryer sheets in areas you are concerned that insects might build nests.  Since we have been using them, we have no longer had any problems from wasps, etc. building nests.  We change them every spring so the scent is stronger again.
