The fake leather on my seats and sofa is falling apart
« on: September 24, 2017, 01:05:27 pm »
Anybody here know of a place that makes leather seat covers? I'm going to have to throw out the couch and find something to replace it...I live in Florida and I have never seen anything like this!

I hope the real leather holds up better. Maybe you could look into what grade of real leather they are using now on the 2018 and if meets your approval maybe you could get PCto put it on your deteriorating seats for a reasonable price.

I contacted Kermit about our driver and passenger seats which have the same affliction; and he quoted reupholstering with the 2018 version at $425.00 each.  My sofa is original cloth covered so we didn't address that.  The seat covers are actually a leather/vinyl combo, the leather on the seating area and vinyl on the surrounding part.  I emailed a local auto seat re-upholsterer who had good reviews and they quoted about $800 each for 100% genuine leather. Well wishes on your search.   :)(:

$1600.00 is a bit stiff for reupholster...I'm going to look around and see whats available. With me, it's my drivers seat/sofa(which I hate)/and european recliner. I'm thinking to ditch the 2 euro chairs and the sofa...replace the sofa with two leather theater seats and get 2 recliners to replace the euros. The drivers seat ...going to look around for a comfortable well padded captains seat....thanks for getting back to me, I'll keep you posted if I find something cheaper and better.

We bought our PC 2400 Sprinter in Tampa last Dec. but we live near Chicago.  We have some passable cloth covers on the seats from the previous owner so re-upholstery isn't on the front burner yet.  Do let us know if you find such a deal...we aren't bashful about jumping into "Fawkes the Phoenix" and heading South.  ;)

Same problem here.  Kermit replaced the drivers seat cover and mailed covers for the Euro chairs... free.  All failed in a short time.  This year the couch was also in tatters by the time we took it in to the plant for service.  They seemed shocked to see how badly everything looked.  They asked if we had used anything on the surfaces with a petroleum base? No.   Also, did we use anything to protect the surfaces? No.  This rankled because bad vinyl was a well known problem they have.

This time no freebies. Everything was recovered. Cost? More than discussed in this thread.

Sounds like 2012 wasn't a banner year for what passed for "ultra leather".  We knew what ours was since the previous owner was very upfront with everything she knew about.  We have all the maintenance records from her ownership which was all but the first year of "Fawkes" existence; and the suede cloth covers she had made work OK for now.   ;)

Pauls Seating supplied the seats to Phoenix for many years, maybe to this day.  They might quote full real leather replacement skins for you.  Google them for their website with contact info.

OK...so far I have found that flex steel makes seats for the driver and passenger...don't know the prices yet...found some nice theater /recliner sofa and a couple of nice recliners on amazon...$745 for the sofa and around $325 for the recliners to replace the "european" recliners....will be replacing one for one   will let you all know as this continues.

There is a PC on RV Trader that replaced sofa and dinette. You might pick his brain for tips.

My 2010 Sprinter 2400 had flaking couches
and driver and passenger seats a couple of
years ago.

PC redid them, but now all wall trim made
from the fake leather/vinyl has begun
flaking, too!

OK....I called PC and they said that they would "sell" me replacement covers for my seats at a tad above what they paid$245.00. Hmmmmm..I found a spot shop4seats.com and found new seats at a reasonable cost. $245x2= $490 + take the seat out/take to an upholster /pay $110.00 per seat to cover/pick up said seat and return to motorhome/reinstall. shop4seats, offers fabric or leather and for $90.00 will upgrade foam! Their sofas/ tvrecliners  kinda costly so, I will be buying one from Amazon=reasonable. I will be replacing the "euro" cars with 2 recliners from shop4seats. Its a real shame that this faux leather crap was used in an otherwise great motorhome...but, thats what you have to expect when you use inferior products from CHINA!....and don't bother calling pauls, unless you want to spend the grand kids inheritance.

Thanks for the updates. I was going to pursue those avenues. Guess we're on our own. PC doesn't want to help us.
Sad, because it's not our faults their Chinese fabrics are failing.  Anyone have any other comments on what other avenues we can pursue?

Well.....since you asked....

I had custom leather seat skins made for our 2006 Jeep Liberty, a 1999 Chevy Corvette and a 2007 Pontiac Solstice.  The Corvette was 100% leather, the other two were leather only on the seating surfaces.  There are seat skin fabricators who sell their products & services on ebay.  It doesn't hurt to contact a few, provide some pictures of your seats, and request a quote.  You would have to remove your damaged seat skins, ship them to the USA ebay supplier who ships them to China for color matching, pattern making, and fabrication of the new skins.  Then wait a month to get your replacements.

The suppliers offer embroidery on the head rests.  I have the word "Jeep" embroidered on the back rests of our Liberty, and the C5 Corvette flag logo on the Corvette seats.  They can embroider what you like.  For example, the USA flag on the front seat head rests or back rests.  It used to cost an extra $50 for the pair of front seat skins.

Cost per seat used to be real cheap, maybe $200 per seat, but as our economy has improved, the cost per seat has increased by piles.  Still it is worth requesting a quote.  I would go with 100% leather to assure you are not reintroducing that same problem.

Just presenting another option to consider.

That is a lot of diesel.
