I talked to Earl today and he told me that PC was extending (option) the 2551 and 2552 to make the beds longer. The longer bed will be 80 inches long. I'm 6'3" so this sparked my interest. We have a 2016 2351 where I sleep on the rear corner bed caddy cornered and my wife sleeps on the sofa bed. Plus the 25's have more storage. As someone just said "we have 2 foot itis". So the question is; does anyone out there own an extended 2551 or 2552 and how do they ride. Our 2351 is the best riding FordE450 we ever had and I am hoping that the extended unit would also. Earl stated that they extend the frame and drive train, not just make more overhang.
Any other comments from the extended unit owners would be helpful. Thanks a bunch!!!!! :help tymote

Offering the 80" beds is a superb idea, those bunks are very short in those two models.   I am sure they are extending the frames and drivelines like they do with the 2900's and 3100's.  Must keep those overhangs as short as possible!  I found the ride in my 3100 much better compared to the 2551 I had and I am sure that was due to the longer wheelbase.  Needed a football field to tunr her around but that is life.

I like the longer beds.


Next they should consider ducted A/C. Then taller people could sleep comfortably and walk around without bumping their head.

So, no replies from extended 2552 owners.  :'( So, how about from straight 2552 owners. How does your unit ride??  smooth, rough, whatever. Have you done anything to improve the ride. Shocks, bars, etc. Overall, have any complaints or would you have PC done something different. ???I put Koni shocks on my 2016 2351 and it did improve the ride . Has anyone done this to a 2552 ???? (WH)

We have the standard 2552 and the ride seems reasonably good.  We have never noticed any significant push or sway resulting from being passed by a semi or large class A MH.  We do notice more roughness when on segmented roads, pot holes, railroad tracks, etc. We have made a trip from the east to the west coast, Florida, and other shorter trips and find the 2552 comfortable to ride and drive.  I would expect the ride and highway drivability to improve with increasing wheel base length.  We stay frequently in National Park and National Forest campgrounds which typically have shorter sites so I think the 2552 is a good compromise length.

Our trip home from the factory with our new 2552 was quite an adventure.  One thing we were looking to test was how was the ride.  I have now learned I most likely had the tires over inflated so dropping the pressure to match the load might help.

But as to the ride, it was better than we expected to be honest.  This is all going to be subjective and what I think is fine someone else might find too rough.  And are you talking about ride in the front seats or in the rear?  We went over some of the roughest roads I have driven on in my life and that part of the trip was white knuckle in places.  But on smooth roads I have no complaints.

One thing I liked about the Phoenix design was their effort to minimize the rear overhang.  The shorter that is the less tail wagging is going to happen.  I see other coaches with very long rear overhangs and wonder how those ride.

So in short, I am happy so far with the ride on the regular 2552, no complaints.  We did just get the Safe-T-Plus stabilizer installed but have not had a chance to get on the highway with it yet.  That should help with the steering slop.

We've liked the ride in our 2552 from the time we took delivery in 2014.  It did have a little more steering slop at highway speed than I wanted, so we had Henderson's Line-Up do their "Road Performance Assessment" for us during our first big trip.  We had them install the "Safe-T-Plus Steering Control" and that practically eliminated that small tendency.
Henderson's told us that the shocks on the rig were good just as delivered to us--no need to change them.
We've been happy with all ever since.

That's terrific news!  Now I won't have to give something up to get a bed to fit my 78" frame into.  I'll still have to go kitty corner but that's no big deal.  Does that mean both beds will be 80" or are they just adding 6" to each bed?

Six inches to each side. But they now have the power opening bed for one or both sides which makes a BIG bed. Every thing else remains the same as a stock 2552.
