Hose length

What's the fresh water hose length you use?
I recently, after talking with Kyle, learned that the water supply hose is not included with the RV. Not a big deal, but we plan on touring for a week or two on our return trip home after picking up our PC, and want to buy a hose. Is 25' enough? Don't want to something too long, that's cumbersome to handle & store, but want something that will work & reach. What's your thoughts?
Jack is what we call our PC 2351D, and he has taken us from campers to RV'ers and loving it. We're no longer Team Bob. Just Jack the RV!

My hose should be delivered to the factory tomorrow.  Got to thinking about it and never saw anyplace that one was included so I emailed Kyle last week.  He must think we talk a lot :)

I ordered a 25' and 10' fresh water hose.  Here is the Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Camco-22833-Premium-Drinking-Water/dp/B004RNR9BY

It appears many recommend carrying a 25', 15' and 10'.  They say buy 2 25's and cut one up smaller.  But that might be for bigger rigs.  I have the 10' and 25' on the way as well as an external filter and pressure regulator.

We will be on the road for almost 10 days on the way home so want to be mostly ready.  I keep reminding myself that they actually have stores along the way so we do not need to buy everything and ship it. ;)

I bought our fresh water hose from a Walmart store in their automotive/RV section.  It is white with a blue pin strip.  The length is whatever they sell.  I also bought from Walmart, a flat hose on a reel, but have yet to use it.  It just takes up space, fortunately not much space.

I don't know why our regular white Walmart hose is not in the picture (WH) but it stores on the same hook with the flat wind-up hose.   I must have been using it at the time.  This picture was originally meant to show how I store our camping table.

I carry a couple of 25 footers.  I need both of them occasionally and have them when I need them.  Virtually every Walmart along your travels has basic RV supplies like hoses, connections, dump hoses, toilet paper, tank chemicals etc.

Once again I think this also depends on how you travel and where you 'camp'.  We carry a 12' and a 6'.  We use them about equally I would say, and we've only needed to couple them together one time in order to reach the water supply.

We commonly use a 25 ft hose...it seems to cover most shore water hookup situations.  However, that being said, there probably will be situations where you will need more hose length.  We have a 50 ft. hose the previous owner left in the PC; and since we don't have a spare tire with us, we keep the long hose in the spare tire compartment.  During our fulltiming days, we camped at a city RV park in the UP, and there was a 4 spigot water bib placed where it served four camp sites; and it took all of 50 ft. of hose to connect.  We boondocked at Kathryn's Landing Nat'l Rec Area on the Colorado River, and rather than move our (then) Airstream trailer, we had 150ft. of hose in the back of the truck, and was able to fill up without moving; but, that was an extreme case.  Carry whatever "floats yer boat".   :)(:

We carry three 10's and a 4.  We just replaced a 25' because the center liner collapsed and was blocking off the flow of water.  We buy ours at Walmart.  A raccoon will chew through a hose no matter what you pay for it just looking for fresh water.  This happened to us at Fort Desoto.

We carry ours in a covered plastic container with other fresh water accessories.  We always sanitize a new hose and then again at the end of camping season when we sanitize everything including the container they are stored in.  We also store all of our hoses with the two ends connected.  We were camping with family when one of the party connected their hose to the water inlet, turned on the water and ants started pouring out.  After inspecting their hose we saw many ants crawling around inside.

Good point. Tip: Carry a Clorox Kitchen Cleaner with bleach, emptied of it's original contents and refilled with a 15% bleach/water mix (bleach won't destroy the Clorox sprayer like it will with an ordinary sprayer).  Then, when you get to a campsite, spray the spigot and your PC's hose connection and let it sit while you plug in.  I have personally witnessed inconsiderate RVers who dump their tanks at the full hookup site, then wash out their 3" sewer hose by holding it up to the spigot, allowing splash to go everywhere.   pyho  Then, like Barry & Sue said, flush the faucet to wash out the ants and spiders that go looking for cool, wet dark places.   ;)     :)(:

I once had a white 25' flat hose.  Cannot seems to find the flats anymore, but did see one on Lazydays site but with mixed reviews.  Any thoughts , experiences, etc.

Thanks

I carry a 50' hose that rolls flst on a reel so is very compact and easily fits in rear storage.   I also carry 2 10 "normal"  hoses and for the majority of RV parks one or tso 10' hoses is plenty.

I don't see the 59' hose (all vinyl, not cloth wrapped) but there are lots at rv dealers ir amazon

Yea, they are still out thete, the flat hose that has a woven outside.   I've had several and they're good for 2 years then thry start leaking like a soaker hose.

I have a vinyl flat one now, it is from a marine supply company but is much more durable.   Let me search some more and find a link.

After searching.. The only thing I  can find is the Gillmore space saver hose but it's only 25' long  They are now owned by Bosch and this particular brand is discontinued.   I found several from places in the UK or Australia   oh well.

I think that my white with blue pin-stripe Walmart hose that I previously mentioned is 25 feet long.  Given our fresh water tank inlet is on the passenger side of the PC, the hose is long enough at the dump-n-fill stations to pass around and under the rear of the rig to fill the tank when the dump station potable water spicket is on the driver side.

I find myself wrestling with long hoses around the house.  The 25 footer seems to be a friendly length to handle with our PC.

As others here implied, I always attach the hose to itself to seal it after each use.  The rear storage compartment stays dry and bugs don't get inside either.

Regarding the flat type hoses, keep in mind that they will naturally 'inflate' with water and so none of its length will be or can be coiled.  For instance, if the connection is 10 feet away and your flat hose is longer, the entire length will naturally snake around the ground (not coiled up like a regular hose). They also have a tendency to kink so it needs to be gently curved on the ground.  Due to kinking you'll probably want to buy something like a 45 or 90 degree entry elbow such as this as well: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/90-degree-water-hose-entry-elbow/1745

We carry a 25' and a 10' round hose. We've only hit one campsite where we couldn't hook up water or electric, even with our extension cord and extra hose but we were able to switch sites so we didn't have to go out and buy more gear. They all store easily in the rear cabinet.

As for getting supplies: Walmart is ALMOST everywhere, camp stores usually carry potable water hoses (you may pay more but if yours blows out, it could be worth it) and if you have Amazon Prime, you can frequently have gear delivered General Delivery to a nearby post office - it may take two days but if you are far away somewhere, it might be the best bet. We've had equipment and even cat food delivered to a PO on our route and picked it up on the way through.

We like to sanitize the spigot with bleach, then turn the spigot on to flush it out PRIOR to hooking up the hose, tip a touch of bleach in our hose then hook it up to the spigot and flush THAT out before hooking the other end to our rig. It's extra steps but I've seen nasty stuff on spigots and we drink from our taps if we've sanitized the system before going out. When were full time on board, we knew our water supply was clean and good to go.

We had a water hose give out while at a campground in Grapevine, TX.  Visited the camp store and found a 35’ for the same price as a 25’.  Turned out to be a useful length.  Had never seen one before, but Home Depot carries them: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Camco-TastePURE-35-ft-Premium-Drinking-Water-Hose-22843/206813410?cm_mmc=Shopping%7cTHD%7cG%7c0%7cG-VF-PLA-D26P-Plumbing%7c&gclid=CjwKEAiAirXFBRCQyvL279Tnx1ESJAB-G-QvQpaY2YFRafhRnFXNBnaDG5g45tU4YH_XPkh8AgvMyhoCqB3w_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

I remember very few of the things that I’ve spent money to buy, but I remember all of the places that I’ve spent money to see.
