Screen Door Latch

Screen Door Latch

The screen door latch on my new PC closes very tight and my wife and I can only open it with two hands.
We have already replaced one cracked latch.

Does it get easier to open over time?
Has anyone modified the handle to make easier to open one handed?

No problem with our 2013 - in fact a bump will pop the screen open. If no one else responds with the same problem, I suggest calling the factory. The screen manufacturer may have changed the latch to make it more secure... perhaps too much so.

Our 2016 uses a Southco latch and we had one break.  Phoenix sent a replacement latch   The latch is pretty tight similar to the one that broke.  I know Southco cabinet latches can be obtained with different opening force designs.  I expect the screen latch is also available with a different opening force.  Phoenix could probably tell you if this is the case or give you contact info to call Southco.

Dave It's possible it's a screw protruding from the frame of the door that is catching the frame of the screen. We had that issue with our 2351. It felt like the screen was catching at the latch but it was the screw head.

Car door lube works well too. Get the waxy stuff.

I saw one that was installed slightly misaligned so that it was super hard to open and close on someone else's PC.
It needs to fixed, lube won't help.
Mine works very smoothly.

 The lube helped on both of our PC's, it made a considerable difference.

 John I did not have an issue with our doors being out of alignment.
Both of our screen doors stuck on the bottom track prior to me lubricating them, after I lubricated them they worked much better.
As I mentioned we did have a screw that was catching our screen door on our 2351, I fixed that by tightening the screw.
