Extend a drawer
« on: January 06, 2017, 03:40:16 pm »
I needed to extend the bottom kitchen drawer to get to the hot water by-pass connections in winterizing my PC.  After spending a long, unsuccessful effort I called Earl at PC and he gave me the simple method just like what Ron Dittmer had posted that I missed "the black plastic levers on the exposed side of the glides.  When holding them up/down...it will come out with resistance.  If it doesn't work, flip the up/down and try again".
Thank you Earl and Ron, I still have much to learn/remember..
Happy New Year, John

Elsewhere in someones post regarding the drawer up/down pieces, they suggested not removing the drawer completely off the track.  Unfortunately I did not see that post until researching how to put it back on the tracks.  They suggested utilizing the little up/down thingies and keep drawer on tracks as it extends enough to reach over the rear of drawer to reach the bypass valve.  Much easier than trying to get back on tracks.

Depending on the depth of your cabinet, you could simply replace the drawer tracks with longer ones so the drawer would naturally extend beyond the front of the cabinet to be able to reach down behind it.  Nice strong pairs of drawer glides are sold cheap these days.  At least they are at Menards....in the $10/$14 range per pair.  They have a bag sale going on right now, 15% off anything in the bag.

The good news on at least my 2016-2351, once you execute the up down on the black tails the drawer will extend beyond normal (not removing the drawer) such that you can see the heater by-pass valves and easily reach in to turn the 3 valves as instructed.
Possibly PC picked up on Ron's thoughts about longer drawer tracks (not sure how many years ago).
The key is just knowing how to extend the drawer with the little up/down thingies.  It may be that you have some difficulty with the lowest drawer, I gained confidence accomplishing the extension with the top drawer, then using that acquired skill on the lower drawer.  Good luck!
