Replacing air mattress & sofa in 2012 PC 2400 Sprinter
« on: December 25, 2016, 08:22:57 pm »
Our new to us PC 2400 Sprinter has the air mattress sofa with an aftermarket battery powered, self inflating mattress. We want to replace the whole thing with a regular powered sofa bed. Has anyone had this done who could relay your experience?   :)(:

I cannot help from personal experience but I thought I read on this forum of someone doing that.  A quick search fails to find the post however.  It might have been another forum still you might try searching here.

I was also surprised when researching RV's that replacing or reupholstering the furniture is common enough that there are after market furniture stores that will take out and replace sofas, chairs or whatever.  An internet search on "RV furniture" might be of help.

You could also call PC and talk to Earl or Kyle and ask if they have a recommended source or if they know what could replace it.  I'll bet if it can be done they have seen it done at least once. :)

We did change our 2012 2551 (E450) sofa that was the air mattress type but we did not opt for a power one.

Hi THIAC,

Here is a little bit of PC history just in-case you decide to swap out the sofa.  In the 2003-2008 or 09 era, Phoenix installed what is referred to as a jack-knife sofa.  PC owners had complained how uncomfortable they were to sit and sleep on.  Phoenix responded by introducing the couch you have with an air bed inside and a storage drawer underneath.  Owners initially responded with great reviews, but somewhere along the way, they changed their mind and became dissatisfied with them.  Then Phoenix introduced a reclining with ottoman split sofa with memory foam and that seems to have maintained good reviews over the years.  I believe Phoenix has since experimented with a few different flavors of the same general couch in concept.

My point to all of this is that if you want to change out your couch, you will likely be most pleased with one of the current day couches because I never read anything negative about them.  And since you live not so far from the factory, you might want to consider having the factory swap couches for you.

Please understand that my suggestion has no personal experience associated for we have a fixed dinette instead of a couch.

This is an old post with new developments we would like to share for any PC2400 Sprinter owners.  After talking to Kermit, we discovered the two section memory foam sofa bed with footrests won't fit in the Sprinter slide because it is over the wheel well.  The regular jack knife sofa bed is the only choice to replace the Aerobed for around $2k.  Reading an old post, someone opined that the Aerobed sofa cushions were more comfortable than the jack knife sofa because they are only sofa cushions rather doing double duty.

We decided discretion is the better part of valor and chose to upgrade the air mattress from the one mentioned above to this one:  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FAW4O0A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1  It is supposed to be delivered in two days so we'll report back on any improvement.   :)(:

The mattress arrived and all we can say is it is. . . Spot. On.   (cheer)   If you rely on an air bed for your only bed, we can recommend this without reservation. 2o2      :)(:
