Bad solution to hear TV over too loud A/C
« on: December 08, 2016, 11:30:11 am »
Brilliant son decided to add headphone amp and cables to jack on back of TV, but required removing TV for access.  Now TV rattles due to screws not going back exactly and the wood supports splitting and loosening attachment.  Love him but never should have let him touch our PC.  Anyone else remove and reinstall a TV and need to repair the wood, what did you do?

I too dropped the TV down to get at the audio-out jack.  It was tedious to remove the long screws and then put them back.  It was a two person job for us to be sure we didn't drop the TV.
But no harm was done and there is no rattle.
Sorry that I have no suggestion for you at this point.

I'vr removed the TV twice on our 2015 2551,three screws on each side and it comes right out... BUT when you put it back in, it MUST be seated all the way back... And then insert screws by hand to make sure you go back in original holes.   Then tighten firmly.. but don't over torque.

As to split wood, you'll have to replace the piece that split... Or have Phoenix sell you a new assembly and mount TV on that and install it while someone holds the TV as far "forward" as it will go.

Not seeing the damage it is hard to help but if the screws split the wood I would remove the TV and glue and CLAMP the split wood back.  Clamping is a necessary part of the job to get a good glue joint.  I likely would also add some additional backing if possible, also glued together.  Then would remount the TV, mark the holes and pre-drill the holes to fit the screws.

Most folks are used to putting screws into softwood or drywall.  You can do this without pre-drilling.  Hardwood is a different animal, and all screw holes must be pre-drilled or the wood will split.  Hardwood does not have the give that softwood does so it splits when you try to screw into it.

Hard to be sure without seeing but I suspect when the TV was remounted it was off slightly and the screws missed the old holes and thus split the wood.

Might want to consider installing a moveable bracket for the tv at this point?
