Hi everybody!

Here are the rigs that I am very interested in Chinook Concourse 21 foot, Chinook Destiny 24 foot, Born Free Built For Two, Pleasureway Excel TS, and Phoenix Cruiser 2350.

Im not sure how comfortable the beds are in the Chinook or any of them. I have a Roadtrek Popular 200 year 2000 and it has a king bed in the back that is very comfortable.

Im seriously thinking about full timing into a 2350 with the wife. I am 5 foot 11.5 inches 230 pounds and the wife is 5 ft 1 in and 105 pounds. I know that the rear bed is 50 X 76 and I blue taped it off on our bed at home and I barely fit. I had 2 inches extra length at the head and foot. I think it will be even more restrictive with a wall as a border.

Is the rear bed comfortable to you? Is it big enough for you? How big are you and tye wife?

Im in Monrovia CA which is a suburb of Los Angeles. Id appreciate it if you would show me your rig. Nothing beats trying it out in real life. Please call me at 626-710-0973.

Happy Holidays!
John

Hi John,

We are on our second PC.  We had a 2008 2350 and now a 2012 2551.

We spend 4-5 months in our unit depending on our travels.  A minimum of 3 months in the winter months.  The main reason we sold the 2350 was the bed.  We are 5'11" (175 lbs) and 5'1" (105 lbs).  There were many restless nights in that bed because of the size.  You are right the overall size seems like it would work but being surrounded by three and a half walls made it difficult for us to move around.  We were always banging into the walls and getting in and out of that bed was also a challenge.

The second reason was the size of the bathroom.  There is very little room to move around in the bathroom as well.

We have found the ideal size for us has been the 2551.  A 2552 would be nice as well-but the 2551 fits in our garage.

We have a 2350 and Barry Sue makes excellent points about the model.  It works for us, but is surely not ideal.  We got the 2350 because we got everything we wanted in a size small enough to fit in our garage.  But the bedroom and bathroom are tight.  Still they both work for us.  I feel that full timing would get old for two in a 2350.  I advise for you consider something much bigger.

I owned a 2010 Pleasure TS Excel for 5 years.  It was an excellent RV and had a queen size bed.  My wife and I gradually grew tired of putting up the table and forming the couch to eat and then undoing everything to form the bed.  We wanted a permanent bed.  We got a new 2015 2350 PC.  I am 6' tall and 230 pounds and I can comfortably fit on the bed even when our 70 pound dog gets on.  I would also state that if I was taller the bed would be to small.  The only other issue is that whoever sleeps on the inside of the bed will have to climb over the outside sleeper.

We have a 2351 with the corner bed, I'm 5'9" 160 lbs and my wife is 5'8" 133 lbs.  We both are very comfortable in the bed, we did upgrade the mattress to include the gel foam layer.  We also opened up the bathroom, removed the wall back to the shower, moved the toilet to the outside wall and eliminated the door enclosure to the bathroom.  This opened up the bed some and made the space much more comfortable and it easier to make the bed.  We've had our unit since the middle of August and have spent about 8 weeks in it.  We travel 6-8 weeks at a time 4 times a year so we spend a lot of time in that bed.  We are VERY happy with it so far and don't feel it will be an issue.  My wife sleeps on the inside, she has a urostomy so she doesn't have to get up at night and that makes it easier for the two of us to coexist in the bed.  I get the side close to the toilet so I don't wake her up when I have to get up.

When we visited the factory a few months back we raised that exact issue with Earl & Kyle since I'm 6'6" 280lbs.  They recommended going with a 2351 since it's a foot longer than the 2350.  They would then eliminate the pantry from next to the stove and extend the bed by a foot.  I sounded like a reasonable idea to me and we'll definitely keep it in mind when the time comes to order.  Hope that helps!

I ordered the 2351 with a 80" bed.  I am 6'3" and currently 240 and had plenty of solo room in the bed.  More of an issue for Tall Guy may be moving in and out of the bathroom.  They did put the tall cover over the shower so headroom in there is not a problem.
Other than ducking under the air conditioner, center light fixture and bathroom door, the 6'4" interior height seems to run true.
Should you elect to buy without a slide and with a dinette, Phoenix will widened both seats by 2 1/2" and the table top stays the same, just make sure what width from the window to the center of the coach you want (reduced to just wide enough for 1 person on a bench, standard width or wider by some inches which can make for a dinette large enough for 4 sitting adults and larger area when converted for sleeping).  Of course larger dinette without a slide means a trade off for tighter/smaller walking area.

The thing that comes to my mind is that bed is 4" narrower than a normal double bed and 10" narrower than a queen bed and the bottom portion is angled.   Think about those measurements compared to your bed at home.   If it is just the length that concerns you than just making it longer may work.

I have found that on a normal bed, one does not utilize the very edge of bed in slumber as they may fall off.  With the wall on passenger side and partial wall next to bath, it allows one to utilize every bit of bed surface.  I am 6' 230,  wife 130, admittedly home bed has a great deal more room, but we found the bed comfortable being everything is a trade off.

If you search for the following, I added pictures of what our bathroom and drawer set up looked like.   I listed all our modifications and then a couple of pictures.

We elected to go with the 2351 on the E-450 chassis. We did as a few of the above did. We eliminated the passenger side  slide out pantry and made the bed 6 inches longer. I am 6'3" and 220 and have plenty of room sleeping solo. The DW sleeps on the power sofa and is very comfortable. We had PC install a higher dome in the shower and works well. Our bathroom is standard PC. Quite small but gets the job done.
