Standard split reclining sofa/chairs
« on: November 05, 2016, 02:38:39 pm »
We tried out the reclining sofa in a 2016 2552.  I wanted to bounce my impression off of you owners, to see if maybe I need to give it another chance.  I didn't think it was very comfortable reclining, because the foot support was a bit too high.  And because there is no head support.

Do you feel that way?

(I did see on here a thread showing aftermarket recliners that looked like they would address my concerns. )
Currently own some other brand B+

That's a good question and the issue seems to come up on the Euro Chair.

In shopping for a recliner for my elderly father, who of course came along to ensure it'd be comfortable, I was amazed at how subtle differences in seatbottom length, height, and firmness affected how one sat or slumped relative to seatback design, including lumbar support, all of which affect each of us differently based upon our build.  And, what's good upright may not work reclined for everyone, followed by changes as the seating (and the one doing the sitting) ages.

I bet if PC respondees discretely describe their builds vs. comfort on particular seating like the split reclining sofa, we might all see some correlations along with whether some need to add pillows or something, also.

Hi snowman9000,

I have seen a few PC's with two swivel & slide captain seats in the slide out in-place of the couch.  They are bolted down and have seat belts.  If ordering a new PC, that would be a question to ask Earl at the factory.  The bigger slide out of the 2351 and 2552 might even include a table in betwen them if deleting the pantry there.

If considering a used PC, you may be able to swap out the couch for two captain seats yourself.  You could order matching ones to the others up front, from PC's supplier.

Just sharing a viable option if you don't mind sacrificing the convert-a-bed.

I wonder if conventional captain seats are available with reclining footrests like the couch offers.  That would seem better yet.

The sofa works fine for me. I'm 5'5" 150 lbs. I have a little squishable throw pillow I use to take the corners off at different angles. I lounge sideways or diagonally for watching TV and use my regular bed pillow to get comfy for that. I have slept on one half of that sofa continuously for 6 1/2 weeks one summer our granddaughter traveled with us and have spent many additional weekend travel nights on it without any problem.

If you give up the couch, you give up the ability to sleep four in the 2552 unless you carry mats and put people on the floor or have them sleep in the recliners. We've slept three or four on several occasions with no problem. By having the twin beds and the couch that makes into a queen bed, we are able to shift around according to who is on board. If we have two guests that don't share a bed, John and I can take the couch and put the guests in the twin beds.

It's all a matter of personal taste. If you never expect to have guests say on board (including grandchildren), then you could forego the couch.
