Selling your PC 2400?
« on: October 28, 2016, 07:58:05 am »
We are in the market for a pre-owned PC2400, 2011 to 2015 vintage (we want the corner counter next to the refrigerator).  Due to community theatre commitments, we aren't able to stray too far from the Chicago area to look at one until after Dec. 18th, but we would love to look at yours.  The one in the "For Sale" section is more "off road" than our lifestyle needs.  You can send an email or post here.  Thanks.   :)(:

A 2006 2400 is for sale right now in Iowa.  CLICK HERE to see the dealer ad with many pictures.  It is the last year Phoenix built PCs with one battery and no whole house inverter.  Actually I believe it was mid year 2006 when they were introduced, so some 2006s have them, some don't.  If those two things are of little importance to you, I would low ball the dealer's price and see what happens.  Maybe he would take $30k.  In general, it is the right time of year to get a great deal on used motor homes on dealer lots.  CLICK HERE to see a number of used 2400s being sold throughout the country.

Just a little FYI.....When shopping around for a 2400 or a 2350, there are many 2010 model years built on 2008 Sprinter chassis.  Phoenix did an ingenious thing during the recession to help themselves stay afloat.  They bought at bank auctions, many 2008 Sprinters chassis that were once owned by other RV manufactures who went bankrupt.  They passed the savings to the customer, offering the Sprinter for the same price as the Ford.  So just keep that in mind when shopping around.  I would price the 2010 Sprinter and Ford PCs the same, assuming the Sprinter has a 2008 chassis.

One other thing of which I really am in the dark about.  There may be some significant differences between a 2008 and a 2010 Sprinter chassis related to that dang expensive $3000 pollution thingy.  The 2008 might have had some issues.  Do your research if considering one.

Thanks for the heads up Ron, but we will hold out for at least a 2011 model because we want the extra counter & cabinet space next to the door across from the galley.  I think 2011 was the intro year for that.  There are a couple of 2010 models listed on RV Trader and RVT, but no go on the cabinet.  There's a 2012 Sprinter chassis model in Florida listed for $70K which we like and could be negotiated to our price ballpark). If it's still for sale at the end of Nov. we will probably make an offer for it.

We think that the curbside rear counter/cabinet was added in 2011, so our search parameters have expanded  (cheer)  We also might be able to consider as new as 2015 if the budget allows.  (exactly)  As Ferris Bueller's teacher said, "Anyone?  Anyone?"   :)(:

Here is one listed in Oregon.  I've been in it and it seems in good shape.  http://www.johnsonrv.com/product/used-2010-phoenix-usa-cruiser-2400-435231-15  No idea what they are asking we were looking for a larger model.

Thanks...we are still holding out for a 2011 or newer if possible because of the cabinet and counter next to the door. Gotta have a place for the Keurig. We use the refillable cups to keep the K-cups out of the landfills.  If push comes to shove we'll think on a 2010.  :)(:

I did contact the dealer and he is wa-a-a-y off on his price negotiations.  =J & S=

I saw an ad on RVT for a 2010 PC 2400 on a Mercedes Sprinter chassis; however, it has a Dodge emblem on the front.  Even though we want a 2011 or newer, in a pinch we could consider a 2010.  Can anyone enlighten me as to what Dodge has to do with a Mercedes Sprinter chassis?  (WH)

Older models of the Sprinter Chassis were owned by  Damlier/ Chrysler and had a different grill.  You may see a Freightliner emblem on the side  and one that says Powered by Mercedes Benz.   Our 2005 Sprinter did not have the MB grill.

Some time, not so long ago, Mercedes owned Chrysler, or was it the other way around.  I think today they are separate companies again.  That history might be the reason for the badge and grill changes.

If this is the PC 2400 located in Sandy, Oregon I have been in it and it is a Sprinter with everything looking just like a Mercedes except that it has a Dodge emblem on it.  I entered from the coach and thought I was in a M/B until I walked around the front and saw the emblem.

Why this is I have no idea..............

Yep.  Someone posted earlier that these chassis are Daimler-Chrysler made that Phoenix bought from economic stressed RV manufacturers during the RV downturn.  I called the one in Oregon and he was wa-a-a-ay too high on price (if you have to ask, you can't afford it).  There is a 2010 Sprinter/Dodge in Burleson, TX just like the one in Oregon that is $10K less, closer to us and we have relatives nearby to stay with while shopping.  However, as posted earlier, we want at least a 2011 so we would have the counter and cabinet by the door instead of the "pantry" configuration.  We are in negotiations with Campbell RV in Sarasota, FL about the Mercedes Sprinter 2012. . .we'll see what develops.  :)(:

You can google Daimler/Chrysler merger to get information.  I can't accurately quote the year it took place or when it ended.

In 2005 we purchased a new LTV Sprinter Class B motorhome.  Ours actually had a Freightliner grill and a "Powered by Mercedes Benz" badge on the side of the chassis.  Others out there had a Dodge grill.   They were all manufactured by MB just different grills.

Just FYI Regarding model years of Sprinters....  Prior to 2008 (or maybe 2007), the Sprinter chassis came with a smaller 5 cylinder engine which is better on fuel economy, but has less power.  It is not equipped with current emission equipment, so it makes that strong diesel exhaust odor.  The bigger 6 cylinder diesel has more power, smells friendly, and has a better equipped chassis that can handle a heavier load and tow.  I heard when stepping into the older 5 cylinder chassis, the rig leans quite a bit for it's suspension is notably softer.

I believe every PC built on a Sprinter, has the heavier duty Sprinter chassis with 6 cylinder diesel engine.  Given when Phoenix introduced the Sprinter, they should all have the Mercedes badge (even considering the ones bought at post-recession auction).  Please correct me if you own a PC Sprinter with a Dodge or Freightliner badge.  Other RV manufactures like the Winnebago Navions dated prior to 2008 is where you will find the smaller odorous 5 cylinder engine with less capable chassis.

Ron... you worry me sometimes. Only a car guy would say vehicle emissions smell "friendly." I can't even begin to put fumes and friendly together in my brain.
