Sofa End Table
« on: October 21, 2016, 04:49:33 pm »
After spending many nights in our 2552 this summer we missed having a convenient place to set a cup of coffee or TV remote along with need to store frequently used items so looked into using the space behind the driver's seat.  Previously when we ordered the PC we asked Kermit to install a cabinet similar to what Gradygal/George installed in their 2910.

 http://forum.phoenixusarv.com/index.php/topic,1131.msg8449.html#msg8449

Kermit did not want to do the installation but I convinced him to supply the parts for me to install along with a piece of Corian to match the kitchen cabinet top.  Since we wanted a place to set items while stationary we took the parts provided and made them into a table and storage cabinet as shown in the photos below.

I wanted to post this in case others have similar desires for an end table that this might inspire their creativity.

Hmm, just remember that is where the transfer switch on my rig is (on the bottom of that wing wall, behind the carpeted baseboard). Same with yours?

Pax,
Yes the transfer switch is behind the carpeted wall section behind the driver's seat on my unit as well.  Hopefully I will not need to service the switch but if I do the end table cabinet is secured with four screws to the floor which I will have to remove to slide the cabinet out of the way to provide access.

Fred,
That is really nice. I like that better than the cabinet that we put in. It looks as if it has more storage. We bring a collapsible hassock with us to store stuff behind the driver's seat.

Might have to get George to redo our cabinet before we head to Maine for 5 months this coming summer.

Nice!!  Is the transfer switch still behind it, in the wall?

rdalton,
Yes the transfer switch is still behind the carpeted section behind the drivers seat.  I did not open the carpeted panel but did see the switch box in a photo taken during the PC build.  Hopefully I will not need to do anything to the switch but if I do the end table cabinet is not that difficult to remove so the carpeted panel can be accessed.

Isn't there an electrical receptacle on that wall?

Yes there is an electrical outlet that is in the upper cabinet.  I left a little room to run a cord around the back to plug into the outlet.  We leave a short extension cord connected so power is available outside the cabinet when needed.

I have considered adding an outlet into side of the end table cabinet but with our experience camping so far I am not sure what little convenience it might add is worth the effort.
