Any Experience with new 6 Speed Transmission

Any comments on the new 6 speed transmission? Mileage compared to 5 speed, gearing up/down hills....

Well this is pulling power vs mileage looks like... and I say pulling power is important if you can get over the hills and dales...it may help on flat lands... I drove it 1400 miles in late July. Need a little more experience to tell you how it is. I am youst to moving my cumin's to a new mode here and there to keep going at decent speed. Not sure my options are as good now. Would rather have a stick... then I know where I am for sure. Most old ladies don't look for a stick shift mode in anything. But I've done 50,000 miles in last few years in class A... and not afraid to shift gears... Mileage was same as the class A...8+ MPG    so break in may improve some but that is on hold at the moment. Oh there is a tow haul push button on end of shift lever which is supposed to change the shifting.

We just completed our annual trip from Texas to northern NM and back over the summer in our 2016 2910.  Our previous PC was a 2013 3100.  There IS a differnece between the old and new transmissions.  I like the new one a lot.  For whatever "mechanical" reason, we didn't get that old high-pitched whine while going up the mountains.  It is much quieter and the overall feel of power is good.  The total trip was about 1500 miles and the mileage touched 9 mpg -- better than last year, but nothing to write home about.

Much smoother shifting, power is the same but transmission makes better use of it. You can keep the cruise on when going up hills without screaming downshifts. Also in cruise, if you are towing down a steep hill, the transmission will downshift more gently to help keep the speed from building too much. Much nicer that the 5 speed.

My only experience with the 5 speed is a short test drive at the factory with a 5 speed demo unit. Our 6 speed seems a little quieter when starting from a stand still to cruising speed and also not as much noise when downshifts are required.  The tow/haul mode in our 6 speed when descending 8,10, and  12 percent grades in the western mountains sure saves a lot on brakes.

Also, if I remember correctly the 6 speed also has a somewhat different transmission fluid filtration/circulation system that extends the fluid change out interval.  I don't have those documents currently available to confirm this so anyone interested should search out the appropriate literature or ask a Ford Dealer.

That is my dissatisfaction with the 2007 TorqShift transmission we have.  If for any reason we had to replace it, I would try hard to get the new one installed.

With one more gear, I wonder how much it positively influences fuel economy.

Fuel economy is Fuel economy.... Meaning you cannot squeeze out more than is needed to get from point A to point B/
Saying that, yet an extra GEAR is nice. But not Maybe advantage as on would like to think...

Remember, Most of our driving is in "High Gear".   Period.... You get what you get when Torque Converter is Locked Up!
