Closing front curtains

Closing front curtains

Can someone tell me how to close the front curtains?  I see the Velcro strips but both are the fuzzy part.....none of the sticky part!  Thanks.

Maybe we're sewn that way and have never closed.  There's no trick to it, really.

Try closing them even though both halves appear identical.

If both sides are the fuzzy part of the velcro then you have a defective set of curtains. Call the factory and tell them what you have. Yes I know you bought used and the PC is already out of warranty but they can help you get a new set or tell you how to fix the old set.

I have taken our curtains off and worked on them.  I would remove one side and sew some new Velcro on them.  The curtains are very easy to remove and put back up and many stores sell the same Velcro that was originally used.

I just came up from the garage.  I had thought maybe ours had a unique Velco type material using the same on each side but I was wrong, the right/passenger side has the plastic-like hooks.  The left/driver side has the fuzzy.  Sorry about that.

Tom is right.  Do as he suggests and call the factory.  They may offer a new set at a price you are willing to spend.  I would not buy just one side for it may not match the other side being exposed to the sun.  If the price is too high, you could do as Barry Sue suggests and replace the passenger fuzzy with the hooks.  A quick remedy would be to purchase a package of little spring loaded squeeze-to-open plastic clips sold at the dollar store for hair styling.  Another alternative are the metal office supply clips, but they have the potential to leave rust marks in humid environments.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.......I thought there might be a double sided hook strip or something that I was missing.  I've got a call into PC on a bunch of other things but that's for other threads.  I'll ask them about it and see what they say.  If the cost is prohibitive, I'll probably use small chip clips until I figure something else out.  I don't sew....although, I guess you could sew a few hook tabs by hand down one of the strips. 

Anyway, thanks again......At least, I now know, I'm not Velcro challenged.  :-D

There is Velcro that will adhere... sticks to whatever it is applied that might work ... Not sure how to close the curtains and we have brand new... they are so stiff you cannot move them far... I tried.. and then to reclose them in their plastic strap was a big job.

Henry,

I actually moved the plastic straps to the bottom of the curtains.  There is a screw there just like in the center.  It is much easier to reclose them with the plastic straps at the bottom.  I also sewed in an extra piece of curtain since our seats both rotate and I wanted to use the seats at night with the curtains closed.  Even with that extra piece of curtain it is still easy to reclose with the plastic straps. 

I also like the way they look with the straps at the bottom.  It keeps them very neat from top to bottom.

You could check with a local tailor.  This would be a two minute job and they might do it very cheap.

When we first bought our PC 9 years ago, our front windshield curtains were difficult.  But with time, we learned where to push and pull and find the curtains to be of no trouble for many years now.  Just be patient and discover the best way to handle them.  They really are nice, and fairly easy to park & strap them.  For strapping, there is a specific place to park the rod inside the strap.  I have been tempted to remove the pair of push/pull curtain rods for we don't utilize them.  They just come along for the ride.

With all the information and encouragement I am weakening and will again try the brand new privacy curtains. If they will loosen up it would be a nice  close off of night gawkers. So we must try again... While it is parked and we are putting things away is a good time to settle how they work.  Patricia (BTW. Henry J was my first car 1958)

I should mention that we also utilize those simple pop-open sun shades, made specifically for the E-series windshield.  They keep the heat out so much better and also provide decent privacy given how well they fit the windshield.  As of late, we've been utilizing the PC curtains for just the sides.

We had bought E-series pop-open sunshades at Walmart in their RV section of the automotive department.  Ours are about 6 years old now, in need of new ones, now having trouble finding the same exact ones with that great fit.

FYI - Costco had/has nice pop up sun shades and we purchased the normal and large. Normal works OK in the Subaru Forester. Large is too big for the Subaru but still too small for the Phoenix. We can prop them in there and the visors hold them mostly in place and block some of the heat but they are nowhere near fitted. Just in case anyone has been eyeing them and wondering.

I had a collection of fold out windshield shades so when we went up to Elkhart I took a couple. In the jeep and when the pull around curtains were so difficult I did put one big one in place and it worked perfectly. Does not cover the side windows however. Mr was going to take a smaller one and make something for the side windows. He is in the midst of cataract surgery so no projects for 3 weeks I think. But working curtains is still first choice. Maybe work better with no AC on... Patricia
