I just ordered a Scangauge II from Advance Auto.  The catalog price ($160) with a discount code trt30 the final delivered price was $118.  I didn't do a lot of shopping but this seemed like a pretty good deal.  As an engineer I am a sucker for geeky stuff.  Now if I can just figure out how to program the gauge to monitor the transmission and coolant temperatures. 

I don't know how long the discount applies as I got the code from another camping/motorhome site.

Been using the Scangauge for years. In by F250 and then in the 3100, run Water Temp, Out Side Air Temp, Total Miles per Tank, and Ave Gas Mileage per Tank, With the Ford F250 I did water, boot, PF temp, and Tran Temp. Plus there a whole lot of other time to do with it.

It sounds like you got a good deal.  I wonder if the Scangauge is seeing less sales now that the newest vehicles are providing much of the same information.

I mounted a Scangauge on top of the back-up camera of which I had previously relocated to the mirror position as shown.  I use the Scangauge primarily for fuel economy monitoring to help me to drive a little smarter with the throttle and gear selection of which I appreciate.  Sometimes I don't realize I am giving a lot of gas when there is a steady head wind or a long & gentile incline.  A little slower or one shift down can sometimes make a notable difference.

Coolant temperature is one of the default gauges, but transmission temperature is not. If you have an E450 and find the code for the transmission temp. I'd like to know what it is. Thanks.

There are 3 other code sets on the XGauge Ford page you might try if the above doesn't work.

I was browsing sites for a school STEM lab and hit a gift idea that sounds intriguing. Has anyone heard of this, researched it or used it? It sounds like a scangauge type connector that feeds to your cellphone or table with downloadable apps. I have not heard of this particular unit.  Before I purchased the Scangauge I considered the Torque Pro app to be used with a wireless OBD sender.  I didn't have an extra phone to use at the time and read some reviews with some issues. Instead I bought the Scangauge and it has worked well.  On a western trip through the Sierras and Colorado Rockies this summer I closely monitored transmission temperature and made some adjustments in my driving to minimize temperature.  I was also able to monitor fuel mileage, coolant temperature, and outside air temperature.  Other info available but did not monitor those parameters.

The phone type gauges may have more options at a lower cost I just do not have any personal experience.

Holly:  I read the description and many of the reviews on Amazon and this looks like an interesting alternative to a Scangauge-type device and LOTS cheaper.  Unfortunately, it doesn't work with standard iOS devices (iPhone or iPad) so I can't give it a whirl. Thanks for posting it.

I still have a two year old ScanGage for sale, have no use for it since I have moved on from the E-450...make me and offer!!!   thanks.

I use the Garmin EcoRouteHD ODBC reader and my Garmin RV760 GPS will display any of that data.   My SmartPhone and the Garmin Mechanic app can also read the data, etc.
