Dalton Hwy
« on: July 02, 2016, 01:58:06 pm »
I am trying to learn how to post pictures. This photo was taken on our return from Deadhorse Alaska on the infamous Dalton Hwy.
No flat tires and no rock chipped windows,( which I guess is unheard of). A Beautiful trip and we are glad we did it but We wouldnt do it again. This has to be the ultimate test for a PC; over 800 miles of unpaved muddy road (round trip). The only problem we encountered was the front TV started coming down and we had to remove it before it fell. We saw over a 1000 caribou, two grizzlies, 40 musk oxen, six moose and 100s of other small animals. Gas in Deadhorse was $5.15 a gallon. We were there on the Equinox and 2:00 am was as bright out as 2:00 PM. Solar power was unbelievable, we were pulling in 10 amps at 10:00 pm.

We spent a couple months in Alaska in 2010.   Decided to take the bus tour from Fairbanks up the Dalton Hwy.   Friends drove their motorhome to Prudhoe Bay.   Six years later they think they are still washing away some of that mud.   The only other bus tour for us was  Denali to Kantishna.   The rest we drove or ferried.

We like many others did experience a chip in our windshield but fortunately no flats or loose cabinets, etc.   We did not have the PC when we took that trip.

That 14,000 mile trip was an experience of a lifetime but at this stage of our lives we don't expect to go back.  Hubby took over 4000 photographs so we have those to bring back the memories.

Thanks for sharing.

oh the mud! It is the main reason I wouldn't go back! Don't get me wrong, if I knew then what I know now I would still do it again.
The mud dries like a low quality concrete and builds like  stalagmites .. I spent a day and half flat on my back with a pressure washer eating it as I went.. I kept a ball of the wicked stuff in the garage just in case my memory fades and think about doing it again.

So surprised with how dark your PC is in these pictures, then I saw the exterior was black.  Have you been able to get the grey out of the black.

I just stumbled on your thread tonight.  It sounds like an exciting trip with a once-&-done approach to it.  I wonder how many pounds of mud accumulated on your rig, especially underneath.  Maybe the extra weight exceeded your load rating, haha.

Thank you for sharing.
