Side Slide Window
« on: May 22, 2016, 04:59:50 pm »
"Happy Wife, Happy Life"... Maybe not in this case.  My wife is telling me she wants to put a window in the side of the drivers side slide so she can sit on the couch and look the front windshield through the slide.  I told her it can't be done without damaging the integrity of the slide.  I'm struggling with the explanation.  Have anyone out there ever do third third party or at the factory?

One reason would be most states have a law on the width of vehicles. I think it is eight and a half feet, over that you need a permit for a over sized load.

I may not have been clear in explaining what my wife is looking to do.  She would like a window put into the side of the driver side slide so that when the slide is out (while parked) she can look out and while the slide is in, she can see out the front window (through the slide).

I have seen MH with a window in the slide. It could probably be done--cost may be prohibitive though.

BTW, Joey, where will you be in NH. We are going to spend a week at the Bluffs (Danforth Bay) to check out the CG for possible seasonal next year.

Hey Judi... We will be in NH and Maine from the 1st of July through the 3rd week of August.  While in NH we normally stay at my brothers home in Dover (he has a hook-up without sewer).  For that reason we go over to Wells Maine ever 4 days for a week. The Sea-Vu campground in Wells is probably the best campground we have ever stayed in while camping in New England.

Joey,
It looks as if we won't be in the same area. We leave FL June 10-3 weeks in MA then on to Boothbay Harbor Maine for 3 weeks. After that, we head to the new National Park Campground on the Schoodic Peninsula  (across from Bar Harbor) for 2 weeks and then on to the  Canadian Maritimes. We plan to be in NH the last week in August.

Judy, a ranger told me that some of the best tide pooling is on the Schoodic Peninsula BUT it is very "cliffy" and you have to watch the tides as they come up quickly and can trap you out on the rocks. So, if you guys are shore walkers, go early (follow the tide out), enjoy, and take pictures to post if you find really cool stuff. We didn't make it over to the Schoodic so I guess we have to go back sometime.

As for the side slide window, please keep us posted. I've also seen them in other motorhomes and it has a mini-sunroom effect that I like. The Phoenix slide doesn't go out very far so the window might have to be relatively small and located close to the outside wall. We also have those "scissor" supports on the side that may get in the way. I don't know, I haven't checked it out yet. I suggest cutting a paper window to see how big it could be. Once you align it inside, do the same outside (spacing in enough for the outside wall) and see where it all hits. A window on each side of the slide would give you the ability to look back toward your hookups without having to run back to the bedroom windows to check on noises and problems (and your spouse while they hook up or unhook).

Holly,
Thanks for the info. We are looking forward to spending time at Schoodic Woods. I didn't like that the other two National Park Campgrounds in Acadia didn't have water and electric at the sites but Schoodic is new and does. And from what I understand, the free bus into Bar Harbor stops at the campground--it's an hour into Bar Harbor. We shall see!
