I ordered a new PC but I still have one question
« on: March 13, 2016, 09:54:14 pm »
I went to the factory last week and spent a number of hours over two days poking and prodding.  I enjoyed my time there.  Since I had never been in a PC, I first had to decide between a 2351 and a 2552 and 4 X 4 or not.  Earl, as others have mentioned, gave me a nice tour and then allowed me to wander through units myself and talk to employees.  In the end, I decided against the 4 X 4 but I did order a 2351 with the following major options:

Built on 450 chassis
Elongated kitchen (giving up pantry)
Slide out with dinette
Full body paint (Desert Sand exterior and Toast interior)
Cherry cabinets and floors
Premium package
Leveling jacks
Insulated windows
Back up monitor
150 W solar panel
15,000 BTU A/C
Plus a whole lot of other “given” common options (Euro chair, awning, bedspread, etc.) and other not so common options.

In an earlier thread, I asked a question about the adequacy of the exterior patio light.  I am not sure I will need them, but I replaced the patio light with a larger LED light (on / off / motion positions) and the same light on the back, just under the upper brake light.

One thing I wasn’t real happy with was the plastic toilet which seems pretty short (front to back).  According to Earl, that is the only toilet that will fit in the overall rather tight bathroom.  Does anyone with a rear corner bath have any options or solutions?

Thanks

We took delivery of our 2351 in mid December. Left for three weeks in Florida Jan 4th in 6 degree weather. As to the small bathroom; yep, it is small but it gets the job done. We had a taller dome installed in the shower as I'm 6'3" and that works well. Other than extra towel racks and a TP rack, there is not much else you can do with it. We find it a very minor problem. We also have insulated windows, extended kitchen counter, euro chair, but have a double recliner instead of the dinette. Wife sleeps on recliner and finds it comfortable. We had dash GPS,Radio, and back up camera installed. If you are having a back up camera installed up between the sunvisors, I think that is the best way. My unit is at the factory and is having the back up camera changed over. We came down from a Newmar DP and so far like our PC better for traveling.

Thanks for the reply.  I sure wish I could have seen your PC at the factory.  They did not have one with the extended kitchen available so I ordered that option based solely on Earl's video.

We ordered a 2351 as well, but we modified the bathroom significant.  We actually created an open bathroom, which allowed us to move the toilet to the outside wall and replace with a ceramic toilet.  They use the plastic toilet because of the tight space in the bathroom, with the closed bathroom they can't fit the ceramic toilet in there.  We also wanted to open up the bed for better access in and out.  We actually saw this setup in a Coach House unit when we visited their plant in Florida.  We know it's not for everyone, but it works for us.

I was wondering the same thing?  We have had plastic toilets for the last 25 years and they do the job - so to speak!

The ceramic toilet was just a throw in to opening up the bedroom.  Because we ordered our 2351 on the 450 chassis, the weight was not an issue.  They use the plastic toilet on the 2351 because it is the only one that will fit in the small space that is available in the bathroom.  The plastic toilet has a smaller footprint, front to back, and that's why they use it.  At least that's what we were told.  I just think the stability of the ceramic toilet sounds better.  Not that it makes any difference in the "functionality" of the toilet.

We've had plastic toilets in some of our previous RVs and ceramic ones in others.  We've found that the ceramic ones are easier to keep clean.
So, we're happy to have a ceramic one in our present 2552.

We had the plastic toilet in our 2008 2350 and now have the ceramic in our 2012 2551.

I found the plastic toilet to be just fine, it actually does a better spray cleaning than the ceramic one.  It sprays the entire bowl from top to bottom where as the ceramic one misses a few places when spraying. The plastic one sat a little high but I got used to it and the ceramic one sits a little low.

OK. We have a 2012 2910 and we had the same "little " toilet. I ordered a Theford thru amazon , easily bolted it in( literally 15 mins) and its just like home. Check your dimensions ,we have ours on a small shelf so we ordered the lowest toilet and, we love it!!!!!! I also have a FIX if you have a small queen bed.....I'm 6'2" and we found a way to cheaply extend to a full queen.

Byron,

I love your selection, especially the 2351 with bigger galley.  That gives you more counter space and more drawer storage.  The only thing I would consider adding is a 3rd patio light on the driver side, on it's own switch by the entry door.  If camping in remote places, you will appreciate 270 degrees of campsite lighting.  It is also useful when backing into a campsite late at night.

Just so you know, your dinette would have been about 8" bigger if you delete the slide out.  That is 8" of additional leg room, 8" more table, and an 8" longer bed when made up so.  8" might even be on the conservative side.  It could be even more.  If you delete the slide out but kept the dinette the same size, you might have room for a pantry between the fridge and dinette.

Ron
