New Jeep Cherokee
« on: November 23, 2015, 09:26:41 am »
There is a fair amount of discussion on the Jeep Cherokee (2014,2015) forums about the "death wobble" at low speeds on Cherokees being towed four down.  Evidently the electric power steering system when activated  (engine running) places a static load on the front wheels and that prevents the wheels from going into a wobble, with the key off (when being towed) that pressure is not there and that allows the wheels to go wild especially when one goes over  tracks, etc not at a right angle to the roadway.   Jeep is supposedly working frantically to come up with a fix that may mean some kind of damper mechanism.   I have yet to have any such issues with my Cherokee (really have not towed that much)  and wanted to know if any PC owners have had this problem?  If you have you should log your a complaint ASAP with Jeep so they are even more compelled to come up with a solution.   Thanks, Ron G.

No problems with our 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk.   We have now towed it about 6000 miles or so and it has never had a problem.  Never been back to the dealer, but there are a couple of minor recalls that parts are now available to fix at the dealers and I will take it in between Thanksgiving and Christmas.   We bought this for my wife to drive and to tow behind our PC2350.   I have nothing to report but good results with this Jeep, which is the sixth one we have owned (Cherokees and Grand Cherokees over the years) and in many ways, this one is the best yet.

Glad to hear you have not had any issues Paul.  I have towed my Trailhawk perhaps 1000 miles with no issues but the last count on Jeep Cherokee Club forum and Jeep Garage forum was over 40 owners who have had violent wobbling episodes at low speeds.  I have owned 8 different Jeeps with very few problems.  I can not say I like my Trailhawk better than my wife's Grand Cherokee but I can not tow the GC behind (weight) the PC.   Ron G.

We have not had any problems towing our 2015 trailhawk. In Seo/Oct we towed down to Myrtle Beach and back . Only issue I have is my milage has dropped to 7.2 mpg while towing. I am not sure why this has happened.

We have a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with 8400 miles. About half being towed. Not a lick of trouble.
